IU will have to face one of its top 2022 point guard targets in the Big Ten.
Junior Bruce Thornton announced on Thanksgiving morning that he has verbally committed to Ohio State.
The Hoosiers offered Thornton over the summer and were one of five finalists along with Purdue, Alabama and Georgia.
With Rob Phinisee graduating in 2022 and Khristian Lander’s length of stay in college uncertain, point guard is a priority position in the 2022 class.
Indiana is involved with a number of 2022 point guard targets. They have offered out-of-state prospects Avery Brown, Zion Cruz, Justice Williams and Jalen Hood-Schifino.
IU seems to have the most traction with Brown. He has often cited Ohio State as another of his top schools. Thornton’s commitment likely takes the Buckeyes off the table for Brown.
The Hoosier coaching staff will also be keeping an eye on a trio of in-state point guards this season. Leland Walker (North Central), Tayshawn Comer (Cathedral) and Braden Smith (Westfield) are all on the radar.
