IU basketball recruiting target Derik Queen is considering a reclassification to 2023 according to a report by the 247Sports Maryland site.
The 6-foot-9 five-star big man is currently the No. 6 player in the class of 2024 according to the 247Sports Composite. He is listed as a center by that outlet and a power forward by others. Queen is a skilled big man who can play inside and out.
The Montverde Academy power forward was a teammate last season of IU freshmen Jalen Hood-Schifino and Malik Reneau.
The Baltimore, Md. product took a visit to Maryland recently, and in the report, Queen said Indiana is one of the schools he plans to visit this fall. He said he’ll more carefully consider reclassifying after taking fall visits. Indiana offered Queen a scholarship in September, with assistant coach Kenya Hunter taking the lead.
According to an Instagram post, Queen turned 17 in December, so if he did reclassify it would be back to his original class. He was recently the only class of 2024 finalist at the Team USA U17 training camp. 247Sports’ Adam Finkelstein described Queen’s play at the camp:
“He has a distinct finesse style on the interior. Queen has a great left hand, catches everything, has footwork, and can pass.”
