IU basketball will have three members of the Montverde Academy team on campus Sept. 8-10.
Class of 2024 point guard Curtis Givens III will join his teammates Liam McNeeley and Derik Queen in Bloomington that weekend.
All three will be there on official visits.
Indiana’s pitch to Givens is that he could come to Bloomington and replicate the season of former Montverde point guard Jalen Hood-Schifino.
“With Indiana, the culture and the fans really stand out,” Givens told The Daily Hoosier of his early impression of IU this summer. “And the coaches, with how they let their players play. But mainly, how they produced Fino (Jalen Hood-Schifino), who was also from Montverde.
“(Montverde) Coach (Kevin) Boyle, he was talking about Fino every day, saying he wasn’t necessarily the best player when he came to Montverde, but he went to work every day and has a great work ethic. Coach Boyle sometimes compares me to Fino with my personality and my work ethic, so I think that can take me a long way.”
He averaged 16.9 points and 3.6 assists playing for the MoKan Elite this spring and summer.
Indiana offered Givens in April, and he included the Hoosiers in his final seven schools a month later. According to the On3 Industry Average, Givens is a 4-star prospect, the No. 54 overall player in the 2024 class, and the No. 8 point guard.
Overall, IU will have four class of 2024 prospects on campus in September, as shooting guard Austin Swartz is coming in addition to the Montverde trio.
