As expected, class of 2025 center Eric Reibe announced his commitment to UConn on Wednesday afternoon.
Reibe picked the Huskies over IU, Oregon, Kansas and Creighton. He visited Bloomington last month along with current commit Trent Sisley, and Indiana and UConn target Braylon Mullins.
The 7-footer was IU’s last remaining center target in the 2025 class, although 2025 power forward target Bryson Tiller could play the position in a small ball role.
The Hoosiers also missed on 2025 center Malachi Moreno, who committed to Kentucky.
As things stand, Indiana has no centers slated to be on the 2025-26 roster. Each of Oumar Ballo, Langdon Hatton and Dallas James will be out of eligibility following the 2024-25 campaign. Forward Malik Reneau is another candidate to be a small ball five a year from now.
IU will now turn to the transfer portal next spring for big man additions, along with possible late shakeups in the class of 2025.
After landing Ballo and Kel’el Ware in the last two portal cycles, and placing Ware and Trayce Jackson-Davis in the NBA, Indiana should be well-positioned to land one of the better available centers.
Although he chose UConn, Reibe said the success Ware and Jackson-Davis had at Indiana made the Hoosiers a very attractive potential landing spot.
But in this case the Huskies could tell a similar story, with Adama Sanogo and Donovan Clingan both reaching the NBA over the last two years.
