The emergence of Azavier Robinson as one of the top class of 2025 prospects in the Midwest continues.
The rising Lawrence North H.S. (Indianapolis) junior guard is coming off a massive sophomore season for the Wildcats. The 6-foot-1 Robinson averaged 20.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.6 steals in 2022-23.
When we last wrote about Robinson in December, his lone Division I offer was IUPUI. Since then, St. Johns, TCU, Oklahoma State, UCF and most recently Notre Dame have offered, along with a host of mid-majors. He was recently ranked No. 80 overall and the No. 15 point guard nationally in the 2025 class by On3.
June 15 was the first day coaches could contact Robinson directly, and things have only intensified.
“It’s been a lot, I’ve been getting contacted by a bunch of different coaches,” Robinson told The Daily Hoosier on Saturday at the Charlie Hughes event in Westfield, Ind. “It’s just been all new for me since June 15.”
Indiana has visited Robinson at his school, and he took a visit to Bloomington for a game during the season. He says he talks to all of the assistants at IU, with Brian Walsh leading the way.
“They (Indiana) are just letting me know that they are watching me and motivating me to keep working hard,” Robinson said.
While Robinson’s recruitment has taken off substantially, there are still a number of programs like IU who are following him but haven’t offered a scholarship to this point. What is the message from those programs?
“I’ve got to improve my shooting,” Robinson said. “That’s really the main thing.”
As you can see in his spring highlights below, Robinson has good looking shot mechanics, so it isn’t a stretch to suggest he’ll likely address that in the coming months. In the meantime, the explosive guard is one of the top players in his class nationally when it comes to his quick burst, getting to, and finishing at the rim. And Robinson has a high end motor that translates to him being one of the best rebounding guards in his class, and a very good defender.
With the transfer portal effectively functioning as an additional recruiting class, IU and most other high major programs haven’t been heavily focused on 2025 to this point. That will come over the next year, and Robinson is someone they’ll continue to watch carefully.
Robinson was a teammate for one season of IU guard C.J. Gunn at Lawrence North. As a junior he’ll be a leader of one of the most historic high school basketball programs in the state.
The Wildcats look like they’ll be dominant again in 2023-24. They tore through four good opponents at the Charlie Hughes Invitational over the weekend, all by more than 20 points.
“It means a lot (to lead the L.N. program), especially growing up in Lawrence my whole life,” Robinson said. “I always watched Lawrence North and I always wanted to be part of the program.”
Below are highlights from Robinson’s spring while he played for George Hill All Indy:
