Indiana landed one player on each of Pro Football Focus’ first, second and third All-Big Ten preseason teams announced on Tuesday.
Two of the players — kick returner Jaylin Lucas, and punter James Evans, come from the special teams. They join wideout Cam Camper, who suffered a midseason knee injury a year ago.
Here is a quick summary of the 2022 seasons for each of three Hoosiers named to the PFF squads. Further below you can see the number of players who received PFF recognition by team.
Indiana opens the 2023 season on Sept. 2 against Ohio State in Bloomington. You can see the full 2023 schedule HERE.
Jaylin Lucas – 1st Team Return Specialist
Lucas returned 21 kicks for 591 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman in 2022. He was tabbed a first-team All-America kick returner by CBS Sports, Pro Football Focus, Walter Camp and USA Today. The Louisiana product was named the Big Ten Rodgers-Dwight Return Specialist of the Year and earned first-team All-Big Ten (return specialist) from the conference coaches and media.
Cam Camper – 2nd Team Wide Receiver
Camper started seven games at wideout in 2022 before he tore his ACL in first half at Rutgers and the missed remainder of season. He’s expected to be ready for the season opener. The Texas product logged 156 yards receiving in his Indiana debut against Illinois, the most by a Hoosier in a debut in program history. He also had 10 catches at Cincinnati. The JUCO transfer is one of eight Hoosiers all-time to log multiple double-digit catch games in a career.
James Evans – 3rd Team Punter
Evans completed his second season as IU’s punter in 2022. He is the program’s all-time punting average leader at 43.1 yards, and owns 17 career punts inside the 10-yard line. The New Zealand native ended 2022 ranked No. 2 all-time at IU for punting average (44.3) and No. 3 in total punts (75) in a season.
