For the second straight game, Indiana suffered from questionable late game decision making in a crushing Big Ten loss. What happened after Purdue’s Trey Kaufman-Renn made a 12-foot jump hook with 11 seconds remaining to give the Boilermakers a 77-76 lead? IU coach Mike Woodson says he wanted a timeout, but instead Luke Goode inbounded the ball to Myles Rice after the Purdue score, and Rice dribbled all the way down the floor to just outside the right block for a contested mid-range jumper. Indiana had a chance to change the direction of their season.  But the song remains the same. The Hoosiers fell behind 17-13 early but hit Purdue with a 23-12 first half run to take a seven-point lead.  They’d lead by four at the half, but the Boilermakers stormed out of the locker room with an 11-1 answer.  Indiana responded again, and went up 67-61 with 5:36 left.  But Purdue won the final five minutes 20-9. Indiana has made a massive addition to the 2025 roster. Literally and figuratively. 6-foot-5 and 310-pound Notre Dame starting center Pat Coogan announced today he will play for Curt Cignetti and the Indiana Hoosiers in 2025. Coogan entered the transfer portal following Notre Dame’s appearance in the national championship game, and visited Indiana this week. He picked IU over Ole Miss, Michigan, and others. Behind Coogan, Notre Dame finished the 2024 season 19th in the nation with more than 200 yards per game rushing. Indiana will be down three guards when they play Purdue on Friday evening. Kanaan Carlyle, Jakai Newton and Gabe Cupps are all listed as out on the Big Ten available report ahead of the game. Carlyle has been a regular contributor off the bench this season, while Cupps and Newton have played only sparingly. A transfer from Stanford, Carlyle is averaging 4.6 points and shooting 29.2% from the field this season. The long-term viability of the Mike Woodson era as head coach at Indiana has been a popular topic over the last year. And that brings about the understandable question — what are the terms of Woodson’s contract buyout should Indiana decide to make a change after this season, or sooner?  And would those contractual requirements play any meaningful role in the decision-making process to retain or fire the fourth-year head coach? If you’re unsure who to root for in Super Bowl LIX, perhaps two Hoosiers on one of the teams will make the difference. The Kansas City Chiefs feature two former IU football players:  Cam Jones at linebacker and Peyton Hendershot at tight end.
