Going back to last winter, talk of Indiana guard Jakai Newton’s athleticism began to emerge. While he wasn’t playing full contact five-on-five, Newton was working out and participating in some team activities behind the scenes.  And his speed and athleticism was catching the attention of the staff. Indiana is one of four schools still in the running for 2025 power forward Bryson Tiller. The 6-foot-9 and 230-pound product of Atlanta is also still considering Georgia Tech, Auburn and Kansas.  Eric Bossi, national analyst for 247Sports, reported the news. Tiller is ranked No. 21 overall player in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Average.  He’s a 4-star and the No. 5 power forward. ROSEMONT, Ill. — Indiana guard Trey Galloway said at Big Ten Media Day Thursday he expects to be a full participant at practice beginning next week. The 6-foot-5 fifth-year guard has been rehabbing from offseason knee surgery related to an injury suffered in March. Former IU basketball one-and-done guard Jalen Hood-Schifino is fully cleared after a spring injury, and he’s a full participant at the Los Angeles Lakers training camp. New Lakers head coach J.J. Redick says the 2023 first-round draft choice is expected to be part of the team’s rotation when the season begins later this month. Although it is getting late in the class of 2025 cycle, things are always fluid in college basketball recruiting. One name to keep an eye on in the senior class is small forward Winters Grady. The 6-foot-6 Grady is from Portland, Ore. and attend Prolific Prep in California. A second defensive back in IU football’s 2025 recruiting class is no longer verbally committed to Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers. The recruitment of 4-star Byron Baldwin has been reopened according to multiple reports. Baldwin verbally committed to the Hoosiers in April, when he pledged to them over Minnesota, Kentucky and others.  He was the top-ranked player in IU’s 2025 class. But since then Baldwin has continued his recruitment, with schools like Colorado and Penn State involved.  He recently took a visit to Colorado, which created speculation he might flip his decision. The annual preseason Big Ten basketball media poll is out. The annual poll features at least one writer covering each Big Ten team. In this first year of the 18-team Big Ten, 33 media members participated in the poll. The group projects Purdue will repeat as league champions in 2025, with Indiana finishing second. A pair of former Hoosiers will take center stage in October as the 2024 MLB Postseason gets underway. Kyle Schwarber (2012-14) will play in his fifth-consecutive postseason while left-handed reliever Tim Herrin (2016-18) makes his playoffs debut.
