Upon further review, C.J. West can play in the first half vs. Charlotte. The IU defensive tackle was flagged for targeting when he made helmet-to-helmet contact with UCLA quarterback Ethan Garbers in the second half of Saturday’s 42-13 Indiana win. That second half penalty carries the added punishment of a first half suspension in the next game.  Indiana plays Charlotte at Noon ET on Saturday in Bloomington. But Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti revealed on his Thursday radio show the Big Ten reviewed the foul and decided to rescind the targeting call. West appeared to be already diving toward Garbers…

After years-upon-years of two-big “buddy ball” and relatively slow-tempo offense that have spanned multiple coaching staffs, it would be reasonable for IU basketball fans to be a bit skeptical about any talk of change coming in those regards in 2024-25. You won’t find anyone who doubts these Hoosiers have talent on their roster.  Many believe it is the most talented team in the Big Ten after Mike Woodson pulled in one of the best transfer portal hauls in the nation. But questions about playing style, and how all of those talented pieces will come together to form a coherent basketball…

IU guards Trey Galloway and Jakai Newton are both still working their way back from injuries, coach Mike Woodson said on Wednesday afternoon at the program’s media day in Bloomington. Galloway appears to be on track for a return to full contact basketball very soon, possibly as soon as next week. “He’s been doing a lot of our conditioning work,” Woodson said of Galloway.  “He’s not on the floor doing 5-on-5 yet. We’re hoping next week he’s able to get on the floor and bang a little bit.” A fifth-year senior, Galloway suffered a knee injury in March that required…

For the Monday Night Football broadcast duo of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, bragging rights were on the line when Indiana faced UCLA on Saturday at Rose Bowl Stadium. Of course by now you’re very familiar with how that game turned, a dominant 42-13 win by the Hoosiers, who moved to 3-0 under the direction of head coach Curt Cignetti. Buck’s broadcasting career began in 1989, while he was a telecommunications undergraduate at Indiana University. The son of legendary St. Louis Cardinals radio voice Jack Buck, Joe was hired before he graduated from IU.  He went on to calling play-by-play…

It’s been hard to find much to be critical about when it comes to IU football through the first three weeks. But one area the Hoosiers must clean up before they resume the Big Ten gauntlet — penalties. Indiana (3-0) ranks No. 112 (out of 134) FBS teams with a total of 25 penalties called against them thus far.  They’re No. 116 with 232 total penalty yards. On the one hand, these numbers further substantiate just how good Indiana has been when they get through a play without a flag.  The Hoosiers have outscored their opponents 150-23, and produced triple…

Also added are some notes on players standing out nationally on the season through three weeks. At 95.9, Indiana has the third-best overall team score in the nation according to PFF, behind just Ole Miss and Miami (Fla.). QUARTERBACK Kurtis Rourke played every snap (65).  Despite what appeared to be an exceptional game, Rourke’s PFF grades were only mediocre.  It’s hard to get a great read on why PFF reaches those marks, but it would appear a lack of big…
