A promising Indiana start was quickly erased, and in the fourth quarter it was Ohio State’s turn for a big run. IU opened the game against No. 14 Ohio State on Thursday night with an 11-0 run but fell to the Buckeyes 78-70 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. OSU opened the fourth quarter on a 9-0 run of its own and never looked back in the final stanza. The Hoosiers (9-4) dropped their second Big Ten game of the season and fell out of a first place tie. Indiana was led by Grace Berger who poured in a career-high tying…

The undefeated 1975-76 Indiana University basketball team was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame on Wednesday night during a virtual ceremony. Quinn Buckner represented the team during the ceremony. Most of the Indiana coverage begins at around the 45 minute mark of the below video. Indiana’s 1975-76 team finished a perfect 32-0 and remains the most recent Division I team to complete an undefeated season. The dominant Hoosiers – coached by Hall of Famer Bob Knight – won their five NCAA Tournament games by an average of 15.2 points, including an 86-68 rout of Michigan in the…
Tom Allen pulled a name seemingly out of nowhere when he picked Georgia defensive backs coach Charlton Warren to be his next defensive coordinator. When former DC Kane Wommack announced in December he was leaving to become the head coach at South Alabama, Allen emphasized that Wommack’s replacement would be expected to adopt the established IU defensive system rather than come in and make wholesale changes. The list of requirements set out by Allen seemed to significantly narrow the field of candidates. First and foremost would be character in a program defined by its culture, likely meaning someone Allen already…
Indiana made the hiring of new defensive coordinator Charlton Warren official on Tuesday, and on Wednesday he met with the media for an introductory press conference. The notion that home teams in all sports need to “bring their own energy” has quickly become an overused expression in the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021. But has the lack of a home crowd been a factor thus far in the Big Ten? IU basketball has certainly struggled at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, losing to middling or worse league foes Northwestern, Purdue and Rutgers on their home court. Just nine games into the league slate, the Hoosiers have already matched their 2019-20 Big Ten home loss total, and the three losses last season included eventual league champions Wisconsin…
When things aren’t going well, every last detail gets picked apart. Even by friendly in-house program legends. IU basketball radio voice Don Fischer is in his 48th year calling Indiana games. For nearly a half century Fischer has seen it all, and from time to time he feels compelled to speak out. And that is exactly what he did on the radio this week. Fischer joined host Dan Dakich on 107.5 The Fan in Indianapolis on Monday to discuss Indiana’s loss to Rutgers the day prior. Dakich of course has a long history with the program as well, both as…
Indiana has confirmed that Charlton Warren will be the next leader of its defense. A 16-year coaching veteran, Warren takes the reins as the defensive coordinator at Indiana. He comes to Bloomington after a stint as the defensive backs coach at Georgia. Warren’s coaching experience includes six seasons as a defensive coordinator. Over the course of his career Warren has earned a reputation as one of the nation’s top recruiters. Warren fills the opening left by Kane Wommack, who left Indiana to become the head coach at South Alabama. Warren will also fill Wommack’s role as the linebackers coach. See…
Indiana head coach Archie Miller joined IU basketball radio voice Don Fischer on Monday for their Inside IU Basketball radio show. Miller and Fischer looked back at the win over Iowa and the loss to Rutgers. The pair also discussed the state of the program and what the team will be doing with an eight day layoff ahead. Graduate assistant and former program walk-on Johnny Jager joined in the final segment. IU (9-7, 4-5) will resume action on Feb. 2 against Illinois in Bloomington. The Hoosiers’ Jan. 30 trip to Ann Arbor to face Michigan has been postponed. Find us…
IU women’s basketball remained at No. 16 in Monday’s updated AP top-25 despite a road win over former No. 21 Northwestern on Sunday afternoon. Maryland (7), Michigan (12), Ohio State (14) and Northwestern (23) round out the Big Ten teams in the latest media rankings. IU’s three losses on the season have come to top-25 teams Maryland, Kentucky (15) and Tennessee (20). Indiana will host Ohio State on Thursday after an adjustment to the schedule.
