Is the Outback Bowl in jeopardy? Although a total of 18 bowl games have been canceled so far due to the pandemic or other financial, venue or sponsorship issues — Indiana’s second consecutive bowl appearance is still on. But IU’s Outback Bowl opponent Mississippi is facing real challenges. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin told the media on Monday that his team is “really struggling” with various issues heading into the matchup against IU on Saturday. Kiffin said the team, and in particular the offense, is dealing with several issues ranging from injuries to COVID-19 cases to players deciding to…

A pair of Hoosier football stars received significant national recognition on Monday. Indiana senior wide receiver Ty Fryfogle and junior linebacker Micah McFadden earned third-team All-America honors, the Associated Press announced on Monday afternoon. Both players previously earned first team All-Big Ten recognition for the No. 7 Hoosiers. Fryfogle is the first Hoosier All-American at wideout since James Hardy in 2007 (second team), and McFadden is the first IU linebacker since Tegray Scales in 2016 (second team) to be recognized. After a breakout senior season, Fryfogle became the first Hoosier in program history to be named the Big Ten’s Richter-Howard…

Mind games? Lazy? Oh my. You have to wonder if Illinois junior guard Ayo Dosunmu realized that his team plays Indiana again in just over a month. But after the way Donsunmu played in the second half on Saturday afternoon in Champaign, perhaps he just doesn’t care. There is no debate from either side of Saturday’s game who the difference maker was. “When it’s time to put the other team away, I try to do that,” Dosunmu said. “Ayo played at a MVP level tonight,” IU head coach Archie Miller said. The Illinois All-American guard had 18 points in the…

After two Big Ten contests a troubling trend has emerged. Indiana is playing hard and keeping things close. But they haven’t been good down the stretch. The Hoosiers competed all afternoon against the No. 18 Illini, but like the loss to Northwestern earlier in the week, a second half Illinois run was too much. And now IU finds itself 0-2 in league play. Indiana (5-4) will face Penn State next for what has the early feel of a must win game. That contest tips at 8:30 p.m. ET at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington on Wednesday. OVERALL (C) It…
Armaan Franklin only needed one word to describe why Indiana was just 16-of-40 (40 percent) from two-point range on Saturday afternoon in Illinois. “Kofi,” Franklin said when asked about his team’s struggles from close range, referring to Illinois big man Kofi Cockburn. The 7-foot, 285 pound Cockburn didn’t come anywhere near the six blocks he had in March in the same building against Indiana, but he was every bit as impactful. Behind a strong defensive effort, IU was able to keep the game close despite an off day from its best player. Indiana leading scorer Trayce Jackson-Davis was just 3-of-13…
