A pair of top ten teams faced off over the weekend as 4A No. 1 Lawrence North took on Hammond at the Sneakers for Santa event in Brownsburg. IU basketball class of 2022 recruiting target C.J. Gunn (#4/white) led the way for Lawrence North with 19 points, six rebounds, three assists and three blocks.  Indiana offered Gunn a scholarship over the summer. Indiana head coach Archie Miller joined IU radio voice Don Fischer on the radio on Monday night for another episode of Inside IU Basketball. The pair took a look back at the Maui Invitational, what Indiana has been focused on over the last week, and previewed Florida State. The player guest in the final segment was sophomore guard Armaan Franklin. Growing up in northern Indiana, life was hard for Tom Allen. The Purdue fans were unavoidable, even in his own family. The Big Ten / ACC Challenge has seen a couple postponements due to COVID-19. The ripple effect has caused a change to the tip time for Indiana’s Wednesday matchup with Florida State. All eyes now turn to the Big Ten, and the University of Michigan football program. Will the Wolverines or won’t they provide Ohio State with their required sixth game to qualify for the Ben Ten championship game as they contend with a COVID-19 outbreak?  And if Michigan cannot play the Buckeyes this Saturday, how does the Big Ten respond? Indiana basketball returns to action this week as the Hoosiers (3-1) get set to face No. 20 Florida State in Tallahassee on Wednesday night in connection with the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. It will be the second meeting in as many years between IU and the Seminoles.  The teams met in Bloomington in 2019 as part of the Challenge, with the Hoosiers coming out on top 80-64. The weekly recognition haul continues for IU football. Indiana’s defense was the story of the Hoosiers’ 14-6 win over Wisconsin in Madison.  And it should come as no surprise that the IU’s top performer on that side of the football was named the Big Ten defensive player of the week. Junior linebacker Micah McFadden earned that honor, adding it to the Walter Camp Foundation National Defensive Player of the Week recognition he received on Sunday.  McFadden had 9 tackles including 2 sacks against the Badgers. The No. 13 IU women appeared to be on their way to an early statement win at Kentucky. Junior guard Grace Berger’s jumper at the third quarter buzzer gave the Hoosiers a 10-point edge going into the final 10 minutes in Lexington. But IU shot just 26 percent in the final quarter, and an 11-0 Kentucky run late in the frame put the home team on top. IU has risen to its highest spot in the Associated Press (AP) poll since 1967 after a 14-6 win over Wisconsin. The Hoosiers are ranked No. 8 in the new AP poll released on Sunday, and No. 9 in the coaches poll. IU has been ranked in the AP poll for seven-straight weeks, matching the program regular-season record. Joining IU in the national polls from the Big Ten are Ohio State (No. 3 AP / No. 4 coaches), Northwestern (15/14), Iowa (19/18) and Wisconsin (25/25).
