There have been blowouts, heartbreaking losses and everything in between, but for 33 years and 24 straight games Indiana couldn’t find a way against Michigan. That changed emphatically on Saturday on a picture perfect day in Bloomington. And more than just the weather was ideal on this memorable afternoon for the Hoosiers. No. 13 Indiana jumped out to a 24-7 2nd quarter lead and maintained the margin throughout most of the second half for a convincing 38-21 win over the Wolverines. No. 23 Michigan pulled to within 31-21 and had the ball midway through the 4th quarter, but IU cornerback…
The Big Ten Network profiled running back Stevie Scott on its short story series “The Journey.” The episode on Scott tells the story of his high school career in Syracuse, his recruitment by IU running backs coach Mike Hart, and his early days at IU. The 6-foot-2 and 231 pound junior has rushed for 2,120 yards thus far during his IU career. Scott and the Hoosiers will face Michigan on Saturday at noon ET at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington. There are no days off with an all Big Ten schedule. And while the rankings suggest Indiana is the better team in their matchup against Michigan, Hoosier fans know that any optimism should come with a healthy dose of caution. That’s because any Hoosier fan under the age of 33 has never witnessed an IU win over Michigan. It is a stretch of futility that is not only older than every player on the team, but also much of the staff. IU offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan, a Michigan alumnus, wasn’t born when IU last won in the series. Defensive coordinator…
It took three tries to get the 2020 Big Ten football schedule right. The league is waiting as long as it can to make sure that its basketball slate is one-and-done. CBS Sports college basketball analyst Jon Rothstein reported via Twitter on Friday that the league is “hoping to release its conference schedule for the 20-21 season at some point next week.” Despite some talks about a full round robin, the Big Ten schedule is widely expected to follow the 20 game format that has been utilized in recent years. The NCAA recently committed to a 27 game schedule for…
So what was going on in 1987 you ask? Ronald Reagan was President. Platoon won the Academy Award for best picture. “That’s What Friends are For” was the song of the year. For our younger readers, sorry. You’ll have to Google all that stuff. Also, a certain college basketball team you might care something about won its most recent national title. Oh yeah, and I saw Indiana defeat Blue in 1987, and it was glorious. Since then, the glorious has become an inglorious trail of torment. 33 years and 24 meetings later, Indiana is still looking for its next win…

It is commonly said in sports that you can tell if the officials did a good job if you don’t really notice them over the course of a game. That has never been college basketball referee Ted Valentine. Nicknamed “TV Teddy” for his on the court antics that have often put Valentine at the center of attention during games, the 39 year official is loathed by the Indiana fan base. If you ask any IU fan over the age of 40 about Valentine, they will immediately mention the 1992 Final Four. Dreams were shattered. Hearts were broken. The integrity of…
Indiana football head coach Tom Allen met with the media on Thursday to take final game week questions on Michigan. After nearly 50 years as the radio voice of IU football and basketball, Don Fischer thought he had seen it all. That certainly includes a less than capacity crowd at Memorial Stadium for a time or two. Truth be told, for decades Fischer has seen the fans clear out during blowout wins and losses, retreating to their tailgate at halftime, never to be seen again. But calling one of the most dramatic wins in the history of the IU football program with almost no fans in the stands? That was different, even for the 74 year old veteran. “Knowing that…
