Playing against 90,000 hostile fans and Nebraska in their famous “black shirt” uniforms, Indiana put together the signature win of its memorable 2019 season in Lincoln. Indiana knew they were getting a bright kid. Bryson Bonds arrived in Bloomington after being named first team academic all-state in Texas as a high school senior, and he was a parliamentarian officer of the National Honor Society. Of course the Crowley, Texas product can play football too. Bonds was ranked the No. 51 safety in the 2020 class according to ESPN. The Indiana football program released a video of starting quarterback Michael Penix mic’d up at fall camp this week. A redshirt sophomore, Penix is fully recovered from a November sternoclavicular joint surgery. Former Indiana forward De’Ron Davis will start his professional career overseas. The Colorado native will play for the Killester Dublin Basketball Club in Ireland according to his agent. “De’Ron Davis out of Indiana University has signed his rookie deal to play in Ireland,” Strategic Athlete Initiatives, Davis’ agent wrote in a Twitter post. “Davis will be joining Killester Dublin Basketball Club in the Superleague to be the leading force for their team in pursuit of a Championship!” Terms of Davis’ deal were not disclosed. The injury bug didn’t wait for the season to begin for IU. Senior safety Raheem Layne will miss a meaningful portion of the 2020 season according to defensive coordinator Kane Wommack. Wommack indicated in a video conference with the media on Friday that Layne had a procedure but did not elaborate on the nature of the injury. Louisville based small forward Kaleb Glenn is emerging as one of the top prospects in the sophomore class. Glenn averaged 13.4 points and 10.1 rebounds as a high school freshman.
