Just a few days after he was fired by Indiana University, coaching legend Bob Knight addressed students and fans at Dunn Meadow on the IU campus on Sept. 13, 2000. You can watch the full nearly 30 minute speech below. It was estimated that there were more than 6,000 people in attendance. The speech was widely regarded as graceful. Knight was fired three days after he grabbed freshman Kent Harvey, who had called out, `Hey, what’s up, Knight?″ a greeting Knight regarded as disrespectful. He made a point to urge the students to forget about Harvey. “Let that kid be…

The decision Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren said would not be revisited — is about to be revisited. Before that vote can occur, the Big Ten medical subcommittee – comprised of medical experts and athletic directors – will present a subcommittee of eight of the conference’s presidents and chancellors with rapid coronavirus testing options and other advancements since their vote to postpone the season five weeks ago. This is how…
Kenya Hunter had a good thing going at UConn. As a respected assistant at one of the top programs in the country, and with most believing the Huskies were a program on the rise once again, it seemed like just a matter of time before Hunter earned his first head coaching job in the profession. But then an old friend picked up the phone, and before he knew it, Hunter was packing for Bloomington. IU head coach Archie Miller was perhaps the only person that could have made that call with any kind of realistic expectation that Hunter would listen.…

Everything would have to go right for Indiana to go on the road and knock off No. 24 Oregon. For the first 22 minutes in Eugene, that is precisely what happened. Oregon opened its 2004 season having won 21 straight home nonconference games at Autzen Stadium dating back to 1994. Indiana had not won a road nonconference game against a Power Five opponent since that same season. Traveling to the west coast as a 20-point underdog, IU seemed like a minor obstacle as Oregon looked to extend its 11 game home opener winning streak. But on the third anniversary of…
The Big Ten is looking more foolish by the day. And the calls for the league to reverse a needlessly rushed early August decision are growing louder. High school football is underway in a majority of states around the country. Indiana high school football is about to enter week four, with some fans in the stands, minimal disruptions, and no major issues reported. There have been only a few college football games played thus far. But the power five train is leaving the station without the Big Ten this weekend. Ranked programs including Clemson, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and Texas all…
