Will they or won’t they play this fall? That of course is the elephant in the room right now when it comes to Big Ten football. As we told you weeks ago, the Big Ten university presidents and chancellors are the decision makers here, not Commissioner Kevin Warren. The presidents and chancellors voted 11-3 to not play back in August, and if the league is going to reverse course and play in the fall, another vote will be needed to reverse that decision. Nebraska president Ted Carter was one of the three that voted to play in August. Since that…

IU head football coach Tom Allen likes to say that you “control what you can control.” When it comes to recruiting, Allen can’t control what other teams in the Big Ten are doing.  He also can’t control for the most part the amount scholarships he has available in a given cycle. If you simply look at the team recruiting rankings, you might conclude that IU is falling behind its peers. The Hoosiers are No. 53 nationally in the class of 2021, and No. 11 in the Big Ten according to the 247Sports Composite as of this writing.  Those are rankings…

“This one is for all the small schools that never had a chance.” Many in Indiana still long for the old high school basketball format. Single class, every team makes the tournament field, with the finals in downtown Indianapolis. A single-class tournament that includes every team might be held in 2021, with the finals in Indianapolis, but it won’t be the Indiana high school variety. Multiple reports emerged on Wednesday morning indicating that there is a push underway to include every Division One team in the 2021 NCAA Tournament.  The 2021 Final Four will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium…

Bloomington was one of the areas hardest hit when the remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon rolled through central Indiana two years ago today. The storm also helped catapult the career of then true freshman running back Stevie Scott as Indiana defeated Virginia 20-16. After two weeks, Indiana has found its sweet spot — falling behind early. For the second week in a row the Hoosiers responded to an early deficit with a quick touchdown, and…

When you go to Mackey Arena, you had better be ready for a street fight. In recent years, Indiana hasn’t had enough of those kind of guys. Playing against a tough-minded opponent, and with a boisterous crowd spewing hateful venom at your every move, you need guys just like this to survive: “Having that fire, wanting to win every possession, and also being ultra-competitive.” Indiana has at least one of those guys. That is exactly what IU freshman guard Trey Galloway said he thinks he could bring to the team as a first year player when we spoke to him…
