The Daily Hoosier is teaming up with The Hoosier Experience podcast to bring you interviews with IU players, coaches and recruits. Indiana offered a scholarship to class of 2022 prospect Avery Brown in July. He is a point guard from Connecticut that plays high school basketball in Massachusetts for Northfield Mount Hermon. The 6-foot-3 Brown helped lead his team to the Final Four in the National Prep Championship, while winning the NEPSAC Class AAA championship. Brown averaged 6.6 points, 4.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game for the 2019-20 season. He broke the school’s single game assist record with 17…
If you know anything about Indiana head football coach Tom Allen, you know being a couch potato is not his style. Known for his daily runs and seemingly never ending supply of energy, it is difficult to imagine Allen aimlessly lounging for hours on end. But with the Big Ten now dug in on postponing its season to January at the earliest, and three leagues — the SEC, ACC and Big 12, tenuously moving forward with a fall campaign, for the first time in a long time Allen can sit and watch college football on Saturdays. It should come as…

The renewal of the Indiana and Kentucky college basketball series is a popular topic for the fans and media, but until recently we hadn’t heard much from the head coaches. Kentucky head coach John Calipari shared his thoughts in an interview with IU alumnus Mark Cuban in April. This week, IU head coach Archie Miller weighed in. Miller was asked on the Aaron Torres Sports Podcast whether he believes the series will ever be reignited. “I do,” Miller said. “Number one, it’s a great game, and it’s going to generate great fanfare, it’s going to generate great camaraderie with the…

It is always a challenge to keep the top high school football talent in the state of Indiana home. That will be true once again with an in-state prospect ranked inside the national top-100 in the class of 2023. Recruiting service 247Sports released its first class of 2023 rankings, and Merrillville, Ind. linebacker Drayk Bowen cracked the top-100 as the No. 61 player in the country. The 2023 rankings will of course fluctuate in the coming years, but as it stands Bowen is just the fourth in-state player in the last five years to be included in the 247 top-100,…
The high only lasted a couple hours. That is just how it is in 2020. A quick dose of good news, followed by the latest kick in the gut. As they competed at their first day of fall training last week, IU’s soccer players and coaches did so knowing that the thrill might soon be gone. It didn’t take long. “On our first day of training we were definitely riding a high and then a couple hours later it was ‘by the way, you guys are not playing any games this fall,'” midfielder Joe Schmidt told reporters this week. Things…
After intense scrutiny from administrators, coaches, players, fans and the some members of the media, Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren has expanded on the league’s rationale for postponing fall sports. In an open letter to the Big Ten community, Warren laid out several factors that led the league’s university presidents and chancellors to vote for postponement. Warren also reiterated that the decision will not be revisited, while introducing the concept of a “winter” season if the conditions are acceptable. Warren’s full letter follows. An Open Letter to the Big Ten Community I write on this occasion to share with you…
