One of the more endearing things about Indiana head football coach Tom Allen is that he is genuine. We aren’t going to sit here and tell you he is perfect. Like everyone, there are exceptions. But by and large, Allen is a straight shooter that wants to answer every question as thoughtfully and thoroughly as he can. A routine question that every coach gets asked each year involves naming which players need to show substantial improvement. Many might give the most predictable coach speak answer. Something along the lines of “everyone needs to step up their game.” Others might share…

The concerns are real, and the lines of communication are open between the IU football staff and the parents of the players during the pandemic. And there is one thing every parent knows. Despite having the best plans and the best intentions, you can never fully insulate your children from risks. When it comes to protecting his players from contracting COVID-19, IU head coach Tom Allen knows he has a heavy burden. “We’ve got to do everything we can to mitigate those risks,” Allen told the media on Thursday. But Allen also knows that despite following every plan and every…
Welcome to the job you have worked to reach your entire career. The reward? Perhaps the most unusual year in the history of college sports. Things will eventually return to some sense of normalcy for new Indiana Director of Athletics Scott Dolson, but his first month on the job has been anything but what he likely envisioned as he toiled away at the school for more than 30 years. One indicator of the environment that Dolson walked into as he began the process of taking over on July 1 — Zoom meetings. Lots and lots of Zoom meetings. “I’ve participated…
Our “Names to Know” series provides a quick look at IU basketball recruiting targets as their names emerge on the trail. Indiana is looking to familiar programs for one of its more recent class of 2022 recruiting interests. Indiana is showing interest in the 6-foot-6 Mahaffey as first reported by Jason Stamm of Bearcat Report. Mahaffey is a teammate of IU class of 2021 commit Logan Duncomb at Moeller High School. Before having to sit…
The year two expectations are high for Indiana sophomore Trayce Jackson-Davis. And if all goes according to plan, the 6-foot-9 forward will have a big decision to make next spring. The IU star was listed at No. 45 in an early 2021 mock draft released by ESPN’s Jonathan Givony on Tuesday, which would place Jackson-Davis in the middle of the second round. According to Givony, the 2021 draft is expected to be significantly deeper than 2020 due to the depth at the top and the large number of college prospects who chose to return to school amidst the uncertainty of…

Big Ten Commissioner Keven Warren spoke with BTN’s Dave Revsine following the release of the revised 2020 football schedule. In his remarks, Warren makes it clear that the release of the updated schedule should not be interpreted to mean that the Big Ten is certain to move forward with a football campaign this fall. “It would be purely speculation for me to sit here today and say that this is the percent chance I think we have a season,” Warren told Revsine when asked about the likelihood the season will occur. The Big Ten released its updated 2020 football schedule on Wednesday. As it stands right now, Indiana will start the season as originally scheduled. The Hoosiers will open the 2020 campaign on Friday, Sept. 4, at Wisconsin. As previously announced, the Big Ten is moving forward with a league only schedule. Minnesota was added as an additional divisional crossover game on IU’s 2020 slate, bringing the total to 10 contests. The only other change to Indiana’s original 2020 Big Ten schedule was revising the location of its games against Michigan and Michigan State. The Hoosiers will now host Michigan and…
