Indiana has multiple elite weapons at its offensive skill positions, and that was recognized on a national stage on Friday. Each of Michael Penix, Jr., Stevie Scott and Whop Philyor were included on the prestigious Maxwell Award preseason watch list. The Maxwell Award recognizes the most outstanding player in college football after each season.  IU legend Anthony Thompson won the award after his senior season in 1989. During each offseason The Daily Hoosier plays coaching staff for a day and examines the IU roster for playing time. Now that the 2020-21 roster is set and team activities are well underway, it is time to allocate the minutes for the upcoming season. Head coach Archie Miller has indicated a preference for not utilizing the 13 permitted scholarship players, and for the second season in a row that will be the case in Bloomington. Former IU basketball star Eric Gordon’s twelfth season in the NBA has been like no other. The Indianapolis native dealt with injuries prior to the pandemic, and the time off has allowed him to get healthy and transform his physique.  He discusses all of that and Houston’s chance to win the NBA title in the bubble in Orlando. Gordon is averaging 14.5 points per game in 28.5 minutes of action thus far for the 2019-20 campaign. Houston will begin play on July 31 against Dallas in Orlando. Indiana added talent to its defensive backfield on Thursday night. Ellenwood, Georgia based safety Jordan Grier has verbally committed to play football at IU. Grier broke the news on his Twitter page. https://twitter.com/TreGrier/status/1286428623503798272?s=20 The 6-foot and 185 pound Grier chose Indiana over a list of schools that included Kansas, Kansas State, Pittsburgh, Appalachian State, Charlotte, East Carolina, Memphis, and South Florida.  In total he had more than 20 offers. A strange and stressful pandemic journey for minor league baseball players is turning into a momentous occasion for a former IU pitcher. Left-hander Caleb Baragar has made the San Francisco Giants opening day roster as Major League Baseball gets set to kick-off its long awaited 2020 season.  This is Baragar’s first appearance on an MLB roster after spending four seasons in the minor leagues. Watch as former Indiana star OG Anunoby discusses his time off during the pandemic and the resumption of NBA action later this month. In his third season in the league, Anunoby is putting up career best numbers across the board.  The 6-foot-8 wing is averaging 10.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.4 steals and .7 blocks in 30.1 minutes of action per contest.  Anunoby is shooting 50.7 from the field overall and 38.1 percent from behind the three-point arc. Former IU forward Noah Vonleh took a few questions with the media as he prepares to participate in the NBA’s resumption of play later this month in Orlando. Vonleh was dealt midseason to the Denver Nuggets, a team that currently stands third in the Western Conference standings.  The Nuggets are Vonleh’s sixth team in six NBA seasons. For the 2019-20 season, Vonleh is averaging 3.8 points and 3.7 rebounds in 11 minutes per contest.
