When Indiana assistant coach Bruiser Flint came calling, Jordan Longino immediately found a connection to IU. Hailing from the Philadelphia suburbs, Longino already knew of Flint, who grew up, played college basketball and coached in the eastern Pennsylvania metropolis. “Everybody knows him,” Longino said of the fourth year IU assistant. Flint first made contact with the class of 2021 Longino during his junior high school season, and Indiana was already a program that the 6-foot-5 shooting guard was well aware of. “The legendary coach Bob Knight of course, and just the legacy and lineage of Indiana basketball, Longino told The…

If there is college football in 2020, at least one predictive model likes Indiana to string together consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 1993-94. ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) metric projects IU to be the No. 23 team in the country, compiling an estimated 7.7 wins during the 2020 campaign. ESPN describes the FPI as “a predictive rating system designed to measure team strength and project performance going forward. The ultimate goal of FPI is not to rank teams 1 through 128; rather, it is to correctly predict games and season outcomes. The FPI was created in 2013…

Portland Trailblazers general manager Stu Inman went to the right guy.  He just didn’t listen. Inman’s trusted friend Bob Knight was spending a substantial amount of time coaching and evaluating North Carolina guard Michael Jordan in connection with the 1984 Olympics trials in Bloomington.  Knight had also scouted and coached against Jordan weeks earlier in the 1984 NCAA Tournament. The 1984 NBA draft was held on June 19, just days before Knight made the final cuts to 12 players (from 16) for the U.S. Olympic squad. Ever the perfectionist, Knight saw plenty of shortcomings in Jordan’s game during the trials,…

Indiana returns more defensive production in 2020 than any team in the Big Ten, and that is never a bad thing. But with the incredibly unique set of circumstances leading up to the 2020 season, continuity might just carry extra significance. It is impossible to know at this point just how much time college football teams will have to prepare for the upcoming season.  Of course we don’t know sitting here if there will even be a season. But assuming Indiana kicks off their 2020 campaign as scheduled on Sept. 4 in Madison, the Hoosier defense should arrive at Camp…

Friday night was supposed to be an important night for the IU football program. The 2020 Cream and Crimson spring game was scheduled to take place at Memorial Stadium, but it was of course canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Already active on the social media platform, Allen stepped it up on Friday night.  He enthusiastically live-tweeted a rewatch of Indiana’s 2018 win over Virginia in a rain soaked Memorial Stadium in…
