One of Indiana’s priority class of 2022 point guard targets is Milton, Georgia’s Bruce Thornton. An Atlanta Journal Constitution first team all-state selection for Milton High School, Thornton averaged 23 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game to lead the Eagles to the GHSA Class AAAAAAA state semifinals as a sophomore. The 6-foot Thornton has an offer list that includes Georgia, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati, Xavier, Clemson, Miami, Ole Miss and Virginia Tech. Cornerbacks coach Brandon Shelby took questions from the media earlier this week.  He is in his 10th season at Indiana. Shelby was a standout defensive back at Oklahoma, where he participated in two BCS National Championship games and three-straight BCS bowl games. As a four-year letterman (2001-04), he earned both All-Big 12 honors and Academic All-Big 12 honors. As a true freshman, Tiawan Mullen became the fourth Shelby protégé to lead the Big Ten (T-11th nationally) in pass breakups with 13 during the 2019 season. Former IU guard Lyndon Jones joined the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Podcast. Jones scored 688 points at Indiana over a four year career that spanned from 1987 to 1991.  He finished his career with 306 assists, good for 10th on the all-time list at the time. Playing alongside Marion teammate and fellow future Hoosier Jay Edwards, Jones won three straight Indiana high school state championships.  Edwards and Jones were co-Indiana Mr. Basketball winners in 1987. ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg is reporting that the Big Ten is not expected to make a league-wide announcement on athletes returning to campus.  Instead, the conference is leaving the decision to the 14 individual schools according to the report. The approach by the Big Ten is different than other power five conferences including the SEC and Big 12, which have approved league wide plans for athletes to return. Instead, the Big Ten will defer to NCAA rulings and guidelines with each campus, state and local area. This one is different. Up until now, the players who had transferred out of head coach Archie Miller’s IU program didn’t play a meaningful role — at least not on game day. Watch below as Indiana offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan and current IU quarterbacks Michael Penix, Jack Tuttle and Dexter Williams join former Hoosier gunslinger Nate Sudfeld for a roundtable discussion. At 7,879 yards, Sudfeld is Indiana’s all-time leader in passing yards by more than 400 yards. He got there despite having fewer attempts than the next two quarterbacks on the list.  The California native had a better than 60% completion percentage every year, and a career percentage of 60.3%.  Sudfeld’s 61 touchdown passes are also the most all-time for IU by a wide margin. IU basketball legend Calbert Cheaney joined the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame podcast. Cheaney discusses growing up in Evansville, his early rooting interests, helping Harrison H.S. to success and experiences ranging from playing for Bob Knight, a memorable NBA Playoff game against Michael Jordan and his coaching career. Cheaney’s 2,613 career points from 1989-93 still stand as the most in IU and Big Ten history. He earned Big Ten and National Player of the Year honors as a senior in 1993.
