One class of 2021 shooting guard that checks that box is Chicago area product Louis Lesmond. The 6-foot-5 Lesmond averaged 16.5 points per game along with 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists during the 2019-20 season for Notre Dame High School in Niles, Ill. Nine Indiana basketball players that saw the floor during the season will be back for the 2020-21 campaign as of this writing.  While formal practices have concluded, the work never stops for high major college basketball players.  Growth and development happens in the offseason, in individual workouts and permitted organized team activities. IU bound guard Anthony Leal was named the 2020 Indiana Mr. Basketball on Friday. The Bloomington based Leal has given multiple interviews since winning the prestigious honor that recognizes the state’s best high school basketball player. First, watch as Leal joined Indianapolis CBS 4’s JoJo Gentry. Indiana has a fairly attractive quarterback situation for recruits in the class of 2021.  And the Hoosiers are in a pretty good spot with their top guy on the board. On Saturday, Indianapolis based Donaven McCulley announced his top five schools: Iowa, Purdue, Indiana, Ole Miss, and Missouri, in no specific order. The IU women’s basketball program saw a wave of transfers leave the program over the last couple months. In late January Indiana announced that guards Bendu Yeaney and Shaila Beeler were transferring.  Last week, 2019 Miss Basketball Jorie Allen entered the transfer portal. It didn’t take long for Jacksonville, Fla. defensive back Larry Smith to pick Indiana. Just a few weeks after the Hoosiers offered a scholarship, Smith has verbally committed to play for IU. Trey Patterson is a 4-star recruit and the No. 38 player in the country in the class of 2021 according to the 247Sports Composite.  The 6-foot-8 wing took an official visit to Indiana in the fall. The Somerset, N.J. product averaged 19.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per game for the 2019-20 season and was named first team All-State while leading Rutgers Prep to a 27-2 record.
