Point guard projects to be a position of high importance in the class of 2022 for Indiana, and Archie Miller may have identified his priority target at that position. IU offered Milton, Georgia, based point guard Bruce Thornton on Friday. The backfield of the future is set in Bloomington. Class of 2021 running back Trenten Howland announced on Friday that he has committed to play for IU. National recruiting site Rivals published the most extensive class of 2022 basketball rankings to this point on Thursday. The Indiana in-state class of 2022 isn’t as deep as 2021, but there are still five players in Rivals’ top-150, with Gary’s Jalen Washington leading the way. Below you can see where Indiana’s main targets in the 2022 class landed in Rivals’ new rankings. The NBA’s Board of Governors approved on Thursday a plan to resume its regular-season in a modified form according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. According to ESPN’s reporting earlier in the week on the NBA’s plan, 22 teams will convene at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports early in July to begin training camps.  Games would begin on July 31. After playing eight regular season games in Orlando, the field will be reduced to 16 teams for the playoffs.  The league’s plans project that the NBA Finals will conclude in mid-October. Archie Miller said recently that Indiana is in a pretty good situation with the class of 2021.  More clarity on what that means could be coming sooner than later. There were developments on Wednesday that relate to two of Indiana’s top forward targets in that incoming senior class. After picking up win number eight and reclaiming the Old Oaken Bucket, a wave of bad beats hit the IU football program. From transfers, to coaching staff turnover to the literal bad beat at the Gator Bowl against Tennessee, the hits just seemed to keep coming for head coach Tom Allen and his program. Former Indiana football defensive lineman Chris Beaty was tragically murdered over the weekend in downtown Indianapolis. Beaty was a pillar of the Indianapolis community and closely involved alum of both IU in general and the football program. Beaty’s family released a statement on Wednesday morning and established a memorial fund that will benefit both IU and Indianapolis Cathedral High School in his name.  A link to contribute to the fund is included below in the family’s statement. The first concrete sign of the return of IU athletics came on  Wednesday when the school announced plans for a limited return beginning on June 15. The first group to start voluntary workouts will be members of the football team beginning June 15, subject to a series of pre-participation protocols along with ongoing evaluations.  The second group will consist of the men’s and women’s basketball players, who will begin voluntary workouts on June 18.
