As you have no doubt heard, former Evansville Reitz High School point guard Khristian Lander has reclassified and will join the IU basketball program for the 2020-21 season. Lander was averaging 21 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.6 assists for his junior season at Reitz. The Panthers (17-7) had advanced to the Class 4A Seymour Regional before the 2019-20 campaign was canceled. Several players and coaches from the IU basketball team joined forces in a short video to address the ongoing racial tension in the United States after the murder of George Floyd. With the message “Racism, in no way, shape or form, can be tolerated,” the program published the video on its various social media platforms. Stanford graduate transfer Dylan Powell was granted an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA, giving him two fulls seasons in Bloomington. According to public records obtained by D1 Docket, the Hoosiers will tip things off against New Jersey Institute of Technology on Nov. 10 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington. Early reports Sunday on social media indicated that people were unable to locate former Indiana defensive lineman Chris Beaty. And then the news turned tragic. According to multiple reports, Beaty was the victim of a shooting in downtown Indianapolis on Saturday night. The downtown area has been besieged by protests and violence over the last three nights related to the death of George Floyd. Local police indicated on Saturday night that they had lost count of the number of reported gunshots in the area. Indiana football wide receivers coach Grant Heard caught up with the media recently to discuss his position group. Heard is in his fourth season at Indiana and his first as co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach. He served as passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach from 2017-19. Six times Hoosiers have earned All-Big Ten honors during Heard’s time in Bloomington, highlighted by 2019 second-team selection Whop Philyor. Heard was a wide receiver at Ole Miss from 1996 to 2000.
