Citing unfinished business, one of IU’s most valuable players will be back for his senior season. After briefly considering the NFL Draft, Tampa, Fla. native Whop Philyor has announced that he will be back for his last year of eligibility with Indiana. Philyor made the announcement on his Twitter account Monday evening: https://twitter.com/SuperstarWhop/status/1214376143119409152?s=20 Before a concussion against Penn State caused him to miss more than a half against the Nittany Lions plus the following week against Michigan, Philyor had the single season IU receiving record books within his sights. James Hardy’s 2007 single season reception record of 79 and Ernie…

Throughout the entirety of Bob Knight’s coaching career, his teams had only allowed an opponent to go over 100 points one time. And then it happened. Three times. In ten days. The year was 1988, and the game, they speculated, was starting to pass him by. Indiana started the 1988-89 season 3-4 and gave up more than 100 points to Syracuse, North Carolina and Louisville. From that point Knight’s Hoosiers won 22 of 25 games. Often erroneously thought of as stubborn and unwilling to adapt, it was a midseason change that dramatically altered the course of that season. Specifically, Knight…
Under a rule established in 2018, college athletes competing in Division I football can participate in up to four games in a season without using a season of competition. Division I student-athletes have five years to compete in up to four seasons of competition. The new exception allows football players to preserve a season of competition if, for example, injuries or other factors result in them competing in a small number of games. Indiana will be able to take advantage of the redshirt rule with 12 of its true freshmen on the 2019 roster including two of its 4-star recruits…
Perhaps by now you have moved on from onside kicks and just an overall disastrous fourth quarter at The Gator Bowl. No one is happy about the way things played out in Jacksonville, but at some point there is the bigger picture to get back to. Going into the 2019 season, an eight win campaign would have been more than acceptable to just about any Hoosier fan. After all, that is a win total that had not been attained since 1993. Some question the quality of those eight wins, but that is an incredibly shortsighted perspective in the context of…
It hasn’t been pressed yet, but there is an itchy trigger finger dangerously close to the panic button after a 75-59 loss to Maryland that was much, much worse than the score indicates. A simple examination of Indiana’s won/loss record doesn’t suggest the need for such elevated levels of concern this early in the season, but Hoosier fans have seen this story before. And with a Big Ten conference that has 12 of its 14 teams in the KenPom top 50, it will be sink or swim, with almost no opportunities for the faint of heart to gain confidence and…

Let’s call it what it is. Indiana’s offense is a complete mess right now. One field goal in the final 9:25 of the first half on Saturday afternoon at Maryland. A 1-for-17 shooting performance from three-point range until the Terrapins put in the walk-ons in the final four minutes. There is plenty of blame to go around — both players and coaches. The bottom line is that IU head coach Archie Miller has got to crack the code of inept play on the offensive end — or we will be talking about a fourth straight season with no NCAA Tournament…
