Indiana will face Louisville on Wednesday Nov. 27 in their first of three games at the Battle 4 Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The game will mark the second meeting in two years involving the border schools. IU defeated Louisville 74-66 last November at the Empire Classic in New York. The Cardinals hired Cincinnati native Pat Kelsey to be their new head coach during the offseason. The bracket revealed on Wednesday morning sets up a game two matchup for Indiana against either Gonzaga or West Virginia. The 2024 Battle 4 Atlantis is scheduled for Nov. 27-29 at the…
As we’ve shared in recent days, preseason computer projections haven’t been friendly to IU football. ESPN’s SP+ and FPI both say the Hoosiers are the worst team in the 18-team Big Ten Conference as we get set to kick off the 2024 campaign. For new head coach Curt Cignetti, that’s just fine. He’s seen less than flattering preseason predictions during his head coaching career. “The two times we were picked next to last, in 2022, we won the conference championship, and in 2017 we inherited an 8-45 team and won eight in a row and played JMU the last game…
Donaven McCulley was one of Curt Cignetti’s biggest wins in the transfer portal this offseason. After a breakout junior season at wide receiver, just his second year playing that position, McCulley decided to evaluate his alternatives via the portal when Tom Allen was fired. And McCulley had plenty of options. Florida State, Texas A&M, Penn State, Kentucky, Michigan, N.C. State, South Carolina, Nebraska, Mississippi State and UCLA were among the Indianapolis product’s offers after his 48 catch, 644 yard and six touchdown 2023 season. The writing appeared to be on the wall. Even Cignetti was surprised when McCulley informed the…
Memorial Stadium had humble beginnings when it opened in 1960. It wasn’t much more than a set of east and west grandstands facing one another, with not much else to speak of in the area. To be sure, the limestone structure is still not among the biggest venues in college football. But the University has invested significant time and resources into making 64-year-old stadium much more visually appealing. That now includes noteworthy items of interest at all four main entry points. At the south end zone, which was enclosed as part of a $48 million project completed in 2018, there…
New Indiana defensive coordinator Bryant Haines once played a role in sending IU football into an all-too-familiar death spiral. Coming out of the 2007 season, many Indiana fans found themselves in the dangerous position of believing the program might be about to embark on a turnaround. Following 12 straight losing seasons from 1995 to 2006, Bill Lynch and the 2007 Hoosiers delivered on his predecessor’s vision, beloved late former Indiana coach Terry Hoeppner’s mission to play 13 games. Indiana went 7-5 during the 2007 regular season before falling to Oklahoma State in the Insight Bowl. And the Hoosiers started the…
ESPN has updated their Gamecast pages to include Football Power Index winning percentages for each of Indiana’s 12 games in 2024. First, a refresher as you get back into college football season mode. Yes, it is just two weeks away. Here is how ESPN describes FPI: “The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 20,000 simulations of the rest of…
D’Angelo Ponds’ side of the field is going to need a nickname if he lives up to the preseason hype. The Frozen Pond? That could work, because at fall camp, not much is happening for the offense when he’s around. All defenses are better if they have cornerbacks they can trust in one-on-one matchups, and Ponds is just fine with being left alone in space. Defensive coordinator Bryant Haines’ scheme is based on an aggressive style. They take risks. And that leaves Ponds in a lot of sink-or-swim scenarios. “I feel like the way the scheme is set up, the…
7-foot class of 2025 center Eric Reibe will take an official visit to Indiana Oct. 4-6 according to multiple reports. In total Reibe has scheduled six official visits in the coming weeks.
