When he committed to Indiana over a year ago, Armaan Franklin really wasn’t sure what to expect when it came to his role with the team as a true freshman. As a three star recruit hovering right around No. 150 in the national rankings, the prognosticators didn’t see an immediate impact. “Honestly didn’t know,” Franklin said on Friday when asked about his expectations for his freshman season when he first committed to IU back in September 2018.  “I was just going to try to come in here and work my way into anything I could get.” While the Indianapolis product…

Indiana’s struggles shooting the ball from behind the three-point line over the last two seasons are well documented. After hitting just 32.2 and 31.2 percent of their attempts during the last two campaigns, Archie Miller’s Hoosiers came in at No. 307 and 311 nationally (out of 353 teams) during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons, respectively. That’s why when the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved a proposal over the summer to move back the men’s basketball three-point line to the international distance of 22 feet, 1 ¾ inches, many IU fans reacted with concern. Truth be told, on the offensive…

All signs are pointing towards another step forward for the Indiana women’s basketball program. And after four straight 20 win seasons, that’s no small statement. Head coach Teri Moren returns four starters and 91% of her team’s scoring from a 21-13 season that saw the Hoosiers advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  That came on the heels of a memorable 2017-18 run to the WNIT championship. “As any year, our expectations are always great,” Moren said in a recent Big Ten Network interview. Those high expectations are shared outside the program as well this year. Indiana opens…

If the news that Indiana redshirt freshman quarterback Michael Penix has been lost for the season didn’t completely ruin your day, well, that’s somewhat understandable. Of course Monday’s revelation is very unfortunate on the individual level.  Penix did all of the right things on and off the field to win the starting job, and then showed the kind of ability through nine games to leave Hoosier fans salivating over what the next few years might bring. But injured as much as he was healthy, Penix couldn’t stay on the field with multiple issues over the last two months. And in…

After a choppy start, Indiana hit the gas and didn’t look back in their 2019-20 season opener against Western Illinois. On a night when curious minds wanted to know who would step in and assume the scoring load, several veterans were up to the task.  Even though Devonte Green, the player tagged by many to be the team’s leading scorer, sat out with a hamstring injury, there was no shortage of points as the Hoosiers flirted with the century mark. The opponents will eventually get more difficult, but nevertheless this relatively young Hoosier squad showed some promise in convincing 98-65…
