Widely expected bad news and continuing uncertainty highlighted IU head football coach Tom Allen’s regular Monday press conference. Senior Coy Cronk started all 40 games in which he has appeared at left tackle, missing one game due to injury since his arrival at Indiana. He had earned an “iron man” reputation in and around the IU football program. Unfortunately, Cronk is going to miss a lot more games due to injury, as Allen indicated today that the Lafayette native has been lost for the season. “Coy Cronk, unfortunately, as many of you saw during the game, experienced a lower leg…
Indiana sophomore Cam Jones has played a lot of positions during his football career. He was recruited to IU to play wide receiver and as a true freshman saw action in 11 games on the defensive side at the husky position in Tom Allen’s 4-2-5 defense. As the star of his St. Benedict at Auburndale high school team in Memphis, Tenn., Jones did a little bit of everything. “Really versatile guy,” Allen said about Jones after Saturday’s win over UConn. “He played defensive end, wildcat quarterback, wide receiver, safety (in high school).” One position that Jones hadn’t played in high…
Only once since the 2013 season had Indiana defeated a non-conference opponent by 35 points or more going into the 2019 campaign. The 2019 Hoosiers (3-1) have now done that twice in the last three weeks. During that 2013 season, a 51-3 loss to Wisconsin was the last time that IU had lost a game by more than 40 points. They’ve managed to do that in the last three weeks as well. Of course the extremes in the caliber of the opposition couldn’t have been more polar than these last three weeks. UConn has lost 18 straight FBS games, and…
The Indiana defense held UConn to just 145 yards in connection with their 38-3 win over the Huskies on Saturday. Leading the way were linebacker Cam Jones and defensive end Michael Ziemba. Jones scored on a 44 yard interception return in the second half. Both players spoke with the media after the game. Arriving at IU in 2016, the same year that Tom Allen took over as defensive coordinator, Coy Cronk has been a fixture on the starting offensive line. The Lafayette native has started all 40 games in which he has appeared at left tackle, missing one game due to injury since his arrival at Indiana. Cronk is a senior captain on this 2019 Indiana football team, and when he went down with a gruesome leg injury in the first half of the Hoosiers’ 38-3 win over UConn, all of his teammates came out on the field to check on him. https://twitter.com/jimcoyleISB/status/1175444697373970432?s=20…
