There were some ups and downs in IU redshirt freshman Michael Penix’s first career start at Indiana. But a 24-for-40 passing day for 326 yards and a touchdown to go with two interceptions was good enough to earn the Tampa, Fla., native Big Ten freshman of the week honors. After a memorable meeting last November, the Hoosiers and Golden Eagles reportedly would like to see more of one another. Eric Gordon’s one season at Indiana has turned into more than a decade in the NBA. The Houston Rockets intend to keep his career going for several more years. You expect mistakes in week one, and Indiana had plenty of them. From interceptions, to dropped passes, kickoffs out of bounds and missed tackles, IU showed plenty of room for improvement against Ball State.
