From the outhouse to the penthouse. The Indiana football team needed locker rooms while the recently completed Terry Tallen Football Complex construction was underway. The solution? The visitor’s locker room. Let’s just say that IU, like most schools, doesn’t go out of their way to make those visiting locker rooms anything special. “The visiting locker room. You ever been in there? Yeah good,” IU head coach Tom Allen said, with a grin. “The new one is a lot nicer, I’ll leave it to that.” While Allen hasn’t been spending a lot of time dwelling on the amenities that welcome visiting…

Of note, Allen indicated that true freshman defensive lineman Antoine Whitner is fully cleared and now with the team. Whitner is a 6-foot-5, 305 pound product out of Bradenton, Florida. With verbal commitments in the class of 2020 from Trey Galloway and Anthony Leal, IU is going to be well positioned to put additional recruiting efforts on class of 2021 Evansville, Ind. based five-star point guard Khristian Lander. The trio were part of the Indiana Elite AAU team on the U17 Adidas Gauntlet circuit this spring and summer. Galloway, Leal and Lander helped make their Indiana Elite squad one of the better units on the circuit. Recruiting site Rivals produced videos of each player at the Adidas Gauntlet Finale a couple weeks ago at Ladera Ranch, California. TREY GALLOWAY (#32)…
In many ways it is to be expected. As a program has evolved over the last decade measurably into the Big Ten’s best, and clear national relevance, of course that means there is talent on the field. Never was the talent more evident than during then 2019 Major League Baseball Draft, when an Indiana school record 10 players were selected. A so-called “northern school” when it comes to collegiate baseball, IU was right there with the big boys when it came to players being drafted this year. https://twitter.com/aaronfitt/status/1136421540000673793?s=20 Of course getting drafted is one thing. The school has had 104…
“He didn’t come here to redshirt,” at the time IU defensive coordinator Tom Allen said three years ago to a group of reporters at the team’s 2016 fall camp. “He came here from day one to play.” Those words are not often spoken about your typical two-star recruit. Maybe it was that rating by Rivals that fueled the fire in Marcelino Ball? Whatever the case, now head coach Allen knew after one season that he had something special in the Roswell, Georgia product. “When he showed up in June, I knew the kid was very, very focused,” Allen said after…
New Indiana offensive coordinator Kalen DeBoer met with the media on Tuesday to update the installation of his offense, the scrimmage over the weekend, the quarterback competition and more. DeBoer arrived at Indiana in January after holding the same position at Fresno State. https://youtu.be/guBNWhLrR4U Video credit – IU Athletics You can follow us on Twitter: @daily_hoosier Find us on Facebook: thedailyhoosier The Daily Hoosier –“Where Indiana fans assemble when they’re not at Assembly” Seven ways to support completely free IU coverage at no additional cost to you.
The IU Football program unveiled a major facilities upgrade on Tuesday night. Encompassing 25,000 square fee beneath the west stands at Memorial Stadium, the new Terry Tallen Football Complex includes the Trent and Julie Green Locker Room, Dr. John Miller Training Room, team lounge, and much more. The new complex was announced in 2018 and made possible by a $2 million gift by former IU football captain Terry Tallen. Tallen graduated from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business in 1982 and while earning his degree was also a three-year IU Football letterman. He was elected team co-captain in 1979…
Peyton Ramsey, Michael Penix and Jack Tuttle all spoke with the media on Tuesday afternoon after practice number 12 of Indiana’s fall camp. As Indiana fans saw in 2018, special teams can win or lose football games. A field goal as time expired gave Indiana a win over Maryland, and a late kickoff return may have cost the Hoosiers at home against Penn State. Special teams coordinator William Inge met with the media yesterday to discuss that unit. https://youtu.be/M06uqnWt2IM (Video credit – Jim Coyle, Indiana Sports Beat) Tom Allen remarked on Monday that punter Haydon Whitehead is “punting the ball really well right now” and also serving as a strong leader in the locker room. You can hear from the fifth year…
With less than three weeks until the 2019 season opens, the installation of the new IU football offense is ahead of where head coach Tom Allen and offensive coordinator Kalen DeBoer thought it would be at this point. Allen spoke about that at the conclusion of practice number 11 at Indiana’s fall camp on Monday. “I would say in some ways, in terms of the knowledge of a new offensive system and the way they execute it — maybe a little bit ahead of what I thought we might be,” Allen said. “Coach DeBoer and I have talked and we…
