The hunt for a second primary ball handler on the 2020-21 roster continues for Indiana. We first brought Andre Curbelo to your attention a couple weeks ago in The Daily Hoosier Report when a national 247Sports article identified IU’s interest in the Puerto Rico native. With the recruitment of other top targets such as Caleb Love and RJ Davis getting more and more competitive, it’s time to take a closer look at Curbelo. Rated as the No. 8 point guard nationally in the 2020 class according to the 247Sports Composite, Curbelo plays high school basketball at Long Island Lutheran –…

This week’s offer spree continues for Archie Miller, and once again the Hoosiers have looked to the East. Wing Jordan Geronimo announced an offer from Indiana via Twitter: https://twitter.com/JordanGeronimo2/status/1152459941292040198 While “Geronimo!” is often yelled when someone is falling fast, ironically enough it is the exact opposite when it comes to the 6-foot-6 New Hampshire product. It is often said that a particular player is a fast riser in their recruiting class, but perhaps no one fits that description better than Geronimo over the last couple months. A relative unknown nationally after his junior year of high school, a spring and…

Despite consecutive 5-7 seasons, there is a healthy degree of optimism, and patience, surrounding the Indiana football program right now. For one thing, folks who have been around the Memorial Stadium block a time or two have seen worse.  Much worse. While bowl eligibility has remained just out of reach during head coach Tom Allen’s first two seasons at Indiana, the product on the field has almost always been competitive. This is where I feel like I am supposed to say something about the Big Ten East schedule contributing to the shortcomings, but you know what, you just have to…

With De’Ron Davis and Joey Brunk only around for one and two more years, respectively, Indiana is going to need to reload size down the road. Archie Miller has gone back to a familiar AAU program to potentially find his next center. IU offered class of 2021 big man Franck Kepnang on Wednesday. https://twitter.com/Andrew__Slater/status/1151668941326049280 A high four-star recruit, Kepnang is rated as the No. 24 player in the class of 2021 overall, and the No. 3 center nationally according to the 247Sports Composite. The Norristown, Pennsylvania native is at least the fifth player on the PSA Cardinals AAU program that…

Bob Knight’s imprint on college basketball is undeniable. Of course you know all about the wins and the success of former assistants from Mike Krzyzewski to Chris Beard. But Knight regularly remarked that his team managers had the toughest job of anyone in his IU program — players and coaches included. They typically worked the longest hours, all behind the scenes, for no glory, save for the occasional rave review from the big boss. During one such moment, at his team’s 1994 senior night festivities, Knight referred to the managers as the “guts of everything we do.”  He added that…

Archie Miller has extended his first offer after the first July recruiting live evaluation period. The offer goes to a player that we have featured here before, class of 2021 combo guard Aminu Mohammed.  Miller watched Mohammed play this past week at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam according to a source, and he clearly came away impressed. Miller called Mohammed to extend the offer, and his guardian Shawn Harmon made the announcement via Twitter. https://twitter.com/Harmon64S/status/1151577439769899008 While the in-state class of 2021 is loaded, Miller of course isn’t going to exclusively focus within the borders of the Hoosier state for incoming high…

One of Indiana’s primary class of 2020 ball handling targets this spring and summer has been New York based point RJ Davis. Davis is the No. 85 player in the country according to the 247Sports Composite.  He has an expanding recruitment that includes Georgetown, Marquette, Kansas, North Carolina, Pittsburgh and a host of other high major programs. While only 6-foot, Davis has an elite ability to create space off the dribble, and has very strong instincts once he has a step on his man.  The result is a high volume scorer that draws a lot of fouls. At last week’s…
