There may have been more to the story of Michael Penix’s pre-halftime exit last week against Eastern Illinois. IU football head coach Tom Allen told reporters today that the redshirt freshman starting quarterback is questionable for Saturday’s matchup with No. 6 Ohio State with an injury. “He’s working through some things right now and we’re not 100 percent sure,” Allen told reporters on Thursday. “It’s going to be a game day decision.” Allen indicated that the injury was not suffered in last Saturday’s game, but that Penix had indicated that something was not right. Allen did not elaborate on the…

Fire up the private jets. After a lengthy college basketball recruiting dead period during which off campus contact was not permitted, the restrictions have been lifted this week. And who a college coaching staff chooses to go watch and visit during the early days of a live period says a lot about where their priorities are. It came as little surprise that one of the first stops for Archie Miller and his staff was to the state of Minnesota on Monday. https://twitter.com/daily_hoosier/status/1171536333744959489 Dawson Garcia is likely the top player on Indiana’s board in the class of 2020 at this point. …
There is no denying the raw talent. And the potential. But who is Indiana redshirt freshman quarterback Michael Penix? While all signs point in a positive direction, as of right now, the verdict is still out. One way, or another, that could change on Saturday when the Hoosiers host No. 6 Ohio State in Bloomington. For his brief career thus far, Penix is 59-of-94 throwing the football. That’s good for a 62.8 completion percentage, which would be the second best mark in program history if he had enough attempts. Penix isn’t building up that completion percentage on check downs. His…

Unlike many in the business, Indiana head coach Tom Allen does his best to give an honest, thoughtful answer to every question. What does this week’s game against Ohio State mean to IU? The coach-speak standard answer would be something along the lines of “it’s just the next game on the schedule.” When it comes to Indiana’s contest against the Buckeyes on Saturday, that answer wouldn’t be true — and Allen didn’t go there. For a program like Indiana, a win over Ohio State led to the darkest day in the history of Ohio State football and legitimized a program…

Many college basketball programs around the country utilize high profile football games as a recruiting tool. Indiana doesn’t always have that opportunity, but this weekend will be unique with No. 5 Ohio State coming to Bloomington to take on the 2-0 Hoosiers. With Buckeye fans providing an assist, Memorial Stadium should be at or near capacity, and at least two high profile basketball recruits will be part of the crowd. St. Louis based 2020 point guard Caleb Love has official visit to IU scheduled for this weekend. Now joining him will be one of the top in-state targets in the…
