The Daily Hoosier is previewing each position group during the final days leading up to the opening kickoff of the 2019 Indiana University football season on August 31 against Ball State in Indianapolis. Today we take a look at the cornerbacks. Much like the safety position, Indiana returns a deep and talented group at cornerback in 2019. The Hoosiers should be able to rotate in two, perhaps even three deep on the depth chart into games this season at corner. IU will be able to put three guys out on the edge with at least three years of experience, bolstered…

As we count down to Indiana’s 2019 opening game against Ball State on August 31, The Daily Hoosier is looking back at the top ten football seasons in the program’s history. The 1942 Indiana Hoosiers were no doubt one of the better teams in the program’s history.  But their inclusion here is as much about what could have been — and paying homage to what wasn’t. Coming into the 1942 season, IU hadn’t won more than five games since 1910.  Head coach Bo McMillin was .500 or better in his first four years in Bloomington from 1934 to 1937, but…

The Daily Hoosier is previewing each position group during the final days leading up to the opening kickoff of the 2019 Indiana University football season on August 31 against Ball State in Indianapolis. Today we take a look at the safety and husky positions There is little question where the heart and soul of the Indiana defense resides in 2019. Similar to the linebackers, IU will have young but experienced talent at safety and husky this year, with a next level talented veteran leading the way. Tom Allen and Kane Wommack’s defense is built for takeaways, and this is the…

As we count down to Indiana’s 2019 opening game against Ball State on August 31, The Daily Hoosier is looking back at the top ten football seasons in the program’s history. Narrowing down Bill Mallory’s seasons to include on this list wasn’t easy. The 1991 season is the first of three campaigns led by the program’s all-time winningest coach that appear in the top ten.  It made the cut over the 1993 season for one reason — the non conference schedule. Indiana’s current challenging Big Ten East schedule today had nothing on 1991. That year Indiana played a power five…

The Indiana men’s basketball program released its 2019-20 schedule today. Based on a quick survey of the slate, here are four quick reactions to Archie Miller’s third season in Bloomington, and a first prediction for how it might play out. AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A FAST START Indiana doesn’t leave Bloomington for more than a month into the season (December 7).  They don’t play a power five opponent until game eight. Not only would a 7-0 start be a good thing for this program, anything short of that would be a big disappointment. There is even a hierarchy within the relatively…

When you live in a recruiting bubble, it’s all about recruiting. And most of us seem to live in that “who’s next” world. From “top ten” lists, to obsessing over every word of teenagers, it is, of course, out of control. The truth is, the hiring of new Indiana assistant basketball coach Mike Roberts by third year IU head coach Archie Miller had very little to do with recruiting. At least not in the way some would have had you believe. Oh sure, Mike Roberts is a good, experienced recruiter in the same way that a lot of Division One…

The Daily Hoosier is previewing each position group during the final days leading up to the opening kickoff of the 2019 Indiana University football season on August 31 against Ball State in Indianapolis. Today we take a look at the linebackers. One of the big story lines for the IU football program heading into the 2018 season was the loss of NFL caliber linebackers in Tegray Scales and Chris Covington. The Hoosiers had big shoes to fill, and like much of defense last year, the linebacker group wasn’t as effective as they had been in recent campaigns. IU will continue…
