Ohio State. Penn State. Michigan State. Oh, and Michigan. We’ll get back to Michigan. Every. Single. Year. The Wolverines, Buckeyes and Nittany Lions are three of the ten winningest programs in the history of college football. The Spartans are in the top 40 in that regard. It’s the kind of schedule that can lead to interesting stats such as this — in the last six years the two teams that have played the most top five programs in the country are Alabama…and Indiana. It’s not the kind of schedule you would want to face when trying to build a program. …

The hard part is almost over for Michael Penix. But next comes the hardest part. The Tampa, Fla. native has nearly worked his way back from a season ending ACL tear that he suffered last October against Penn State. Right after the injury, IU head coach Tom Allen indicated that the goal was to have Penix back for certain aspects of spring practice, and then back to “100 percent full bore” by June 1. It looks like things are more or less right on track. Penix participated in a limited capacity in spring practice, and played quarterback in special 7-on-7…
While Indiana continues on its quest to improve upon its perimeter shooting, they will now have to face another talented shot maker in league play next year. And it will be a familiar face. Former IU guard Curtis Jones will join Penn State next year and he will be immediately eligible for the 2019-20 season. Jones announced the move on his Twitter page. https://twitter.com/ctj_curt/status/1138461795742638080 Jones announced his intent to transfer from IU in December of 2017 — in the middle of his sophomore season with the Hoosiers. The Richmond, Virginia native was averaging 3.0 points per game on the season…
After widely being considered one of, if not the best, conferences in the country in 2018-19, Big Ten basketball appears destined for a drop off next season. Virtually every team in the league must contend with the loss of significant components to their roster, and no one appears to have a high impact from day one recruiting class. While you can never be certain in this era, roster turnover appears to be largely finished at this point, and with that we go team by team and examine what is in store for the 2019-20 season. The teams are shown in…
Damezi Anderson broke a long span of years since a basketball player from South Bend suited up for Indiana University. It appears likely that another South Bend talent — from the same high school as Anderson — will have the opportunity to establish a trend. Class of 2021 shooting guard Blake Wesley is a rising star in a highly talented group of incoming juniors across the state of Indiana. Playing at the same high school as Anderson, Wesley had a big sophomore season at South Bend Riley. The 6-foot-5 Wesley averaged 12.3 points, 3 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.1 assists…
There is almost always top shelf high school basketball talent in the Hoosier state. Archie Miller knew this when he was hired as the Indiana head coach in 2017. In his opening remarks as the leader of the IU program, he said that his staff would “dedicate ourselves to the high school coaches in this state, the high school talent in this state, and the grassroots programs in this state.” With two straight Mr. Basketball winners and five overall in-state commits in the last two classes, so far so good. But then there is the in-state class of 2021. It’s…
UPDATE: Indiana offered Kaufman a scholarship today at their team camp. https://twitter.com/CardellMcF/status/1137483360115314688 The original article continues below. The 2021 in-state recruiting class is on track to be one of the best ever. It’s so good that there are two players with a realistic shot to break the state’s all-time scoring record that IU hasn’t even offered yet. By now you have likely heard of Khristian Lander and Caleb Furst, who are widely regarded as the top two players in Indiana in the 2021 class. Both are ranked in the top 50 nationally. Right on their heels is Trey Kaufman of…
Juwan Morgan knows about significant year-over-year improvement. Playing in his third year in the Indiana program and his first season under new head coach Archie Miller, Morgan’s game transformed and his stat line exploded. The Waynesville, Missouri native averaged 8.8 more points, 1.8 more rebounds and .5 more blocks per game for his junior season compared to his sophomore campaign. So when Morgan said this in reference to Damezi Anderson on 1070 The Fan this week, it caught our attention. “That’s my dark horse for most improved player.” Clearly Morgan saw something behind the scenes that suggests there is much…
Indiana football has gone into relatively new territory for its sixth commitment of the 2020 recruiting class. Collins, Mississippi defensive back / receiver / athlete Christopher Keys committed to IU on Thursday. The 6-foot-1, 165 pound Keys announced the news on his Twitter page: https://twitter.com/_iamchrisK/status/1136680436292366338 According to his MaxPreps’ page, Collins had 18 catches for 220 yards and a touchdown as a junior at Collins High School. The two-way player added 23 tackles and 2 interceptions from his cornerback position. Keys is rated as a 3-star recruit according to 247Sports, coming in as the No. 531 overall player in the…
Indiana will be taking on someone other than Duke in the 2019 Big Ten / ACC Challenge. After facing the Blue Devils in each of the last two years, the Hoosiers will face the Florida State Seminoles in this year’s event. The IU basketball program has now confirmed what CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein first reported regarding this year’s opponent in the annual slate of games involving the two power five conferences. The game will be played on Tuesday, December 3 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington. A specific time has not yet been released. FSU head coach Leonard Hamilton…
