The Big Ten Tournament didn’t go as planned last week for IU baseball. Now the regular season league champion Hoosiers will get another shot at the postseason, and to advance they will likely have to go through a familiar foe. The NCAA announced the field for the 2019 baseball tournament on Monday afternoon on ESPNU. As was widely expected, Indiana (36-21) will play close to home at the Louisville regional. The Hoosiers will be the No. 2 seed in the four team double-elimination regional. Joining IU there will be Illinois-Chicago, Illinois State, and of course Louisville. The team shared their…

After a disappointing end of its efforts to assemble the recruiting class of 2019, the Indiana University basketball program will look to get some momentum going with its class of 2020. An early commitment would certainly help to move the conversation forward. Recruiting service Rivals reported ($) that IU will have three visitors this week, and The Daily Hoosier has confirmed that an official visit from in-state guard Trey Galloway is leading things off. Indiana has been watching northern Indiana product Galloway for a couple years. The Culver, Ind. native has been key piece of a successful Culver Academies high…
It has been an interesting year for Goshen, Ky.’s class of 2020 guard Justin Powell. After playing his sophomore year at Louisville Trinity High School, he decided to make the leap to a national prep school. Prior to his move to Montverde Academy in Florida, Powell was the No. 51 ranked player nationally in the 2020 class. Just months after his move to Florida, Powell was back in Kentucky and forced to sit out his junior year due to the state’s high school transfer rules. He now attends North Oldham High School just outside of Louisville. Until AAU play started…
The recruiting season rolls on as we near the summer, and one name in the 2021 class that continues to emerge is class of 2021 Fort Wayne, Ind. product Luke Goode. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard’s rise reached a new high point, as he moved up a year at least for this weekend to play with the U17 Indy Heat team on the Nike EYBL Circuit. For the weekend, Goode averaged 9.8 points on 44.7 percent shooting overall and 38.5 percent from behind the three-point line. He also contributed 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal per game. An incoming…
Only seven players that saw the floor from the 2018-19 Indiana basketball team will be back for the 2019-20 campaign as of this writing. While formal practices have concluded, the work never stops for high major college basketball players. Growth and development happens in the offseason, in individual workouts and permitted organized team activities. If you could talk to each of the seven returning players about their 2018-19 season and what they need to improve going forward, what would you say? We play Archie for a day and give it a shot with “Exit Interviews.” Devonte Green Quick 2018-19 Recap: The…
The start of the 2019 Indiana football season is now less than 100 days away, and with that, preseason college football coverage is here. Five Hoosiers received recognition by the publication, including three offensive players, one defender, and one special teams member. Indiana’s stay in Omaha didn’t last long. Now the focus turns towards figuring out how to get back. The Hoosiers lost a Thursday afternoon Big Ten Tournament elimination bracket game against Minnesota by a score of 9-4 just a day after losing their opener yesterday to Iowa. Minnesota got to IU starter Tanner Gordon for two early runs before Justin Walker tied things up in the fourth with a bloop single. https://twitter.com/IndianaBase/status/1131645058279776256 The Hoosiers took a 3-2 lead before a three run Minnesota fifth gave the a Gophers a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. For the second straight day IU struggled…
A strong performance by Hassan Diarra in the Hoosier state caught the attention of the Indiana coaching staff. And the traits that Diarra brings to the court might be just what the doctor ordered for IU. After averaging 10.2 points, 7.5 assists, and 5.5 rebounds at the Nike EYBL Session II in Westfield, Ind. two weeks ago, Indiana reportedly made contact with the 6-foot-2, 180 pound point guard. Perhaps more than numbers, it might have been intangibles that specifically caught the attention of Archie Miller. DeAnte’ Mitchell, staff writer for NYCHoops wrote this ($) about Diarra after his solid weekend…
As you have likely heard by now, the University of Michigan has decided to rekindle the past as it hired former player Juwan Howard as its next head coach to replace John Beilein. Howard isn’t just any former Wolverine player. He was one of the famous, or infamous, “Fab Five” that took the college basketball world by storm from 1991 to 1993. Joining Howard at Michigan in making up perhaps the best known recruiting class in college basketball history were Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson. This was no ordinary era of Indiana basketball either. During the…
The challenge just got more difficult in Omaha. Big Ten regular season champion and No. 1 seed Indiana lost to Iowa on Wednesday evening by a final score of 4-2 at TD Ameritrade Park. The Hoosiers met a familiar foe in Iowa’s Cole McDonald, and once again, IU struggled at the plate. Indiana put up just two runs in seven innings while striking out 11 times against McDonald back in March at Bloomington in a game that IU still managed to win. Hoosier hitters found it even more difficult to solve McDonald this time at the expansive host ballpark of…
