Kentucky isn’t right for everyone. Reverse psychology on a teenager?  Maybe. But it seems Wildcat head coach John Calipari’s go to selling point is right.  It just may not always be for the same reason that he has been pitching to recruits through the years. After going back and looking at Calipari’s recruiting classes since his arrival at Lexington in 2009, one thing seems clear — if you are not a top 15 recruit, and your goal is to jump to the NBA after one season — then Kentucky isn’t right for you. The more apt description?  Kentucky is a…

Indiana lost to Ohio State on Thursday afternoon at the Big Ten Tournament in Chicago. The Hoosiers (17-15) will await their postseason fate on Sunday night. THREE KEYS TO THE GAME 1. Indiana doesn’t take care of the ball. A key part of Indiana’s four game winning streak was that it kept turnovers to a minimum.  The Hoosiers had single digit turnovers in the last three games.  Today IU had 17 miscues for a 23% turnover rate, as the issue plagued the team throughout the game.  Four different IU players had three or more turnovers, and Ohio State was able…

There are some things in March that you can practically set your watch to.  The weather warms up, some early ambitious blooms appear, the birds start chirping, and Purdue chokes in the NCAA tournament. Ah, what a glorious time it is indeed. Unfortunately for Indiana fans we have our own unpleasantness to contend with in March — The Big Ten Tournament. It’s the gift that keeps on giving, year after miserable year whether the Hoosiers are Big Ten champions or just another team. Today we go back to the very beginning, to a legendary coach that didn’t want to see…

The stakes couldn’t be higher. It is likely win or go home for both Indiana and Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament.  Not just home as in leaving Chicago, home as in home during the NCAA Tournament. Both teams are squarely on the NCAA bubble with no margin for error, and both teams come into the game headed in completely different directions. The Hoosiers have come back from the dead, winners of four in a row to close out the regular season. The Buckeyes have lost three in a row and six of eight.  The three game losing streak…

Confidence is such an amazing thing to watch come and go. Not our words. That was Indiana head basketball coach Archie Miller on Monday night on his radio show with the voice of IU basketball Don Fischer. Drowning in the mires of a miserable stretch of losing, confident was one thing that Indiana clearly was not. And then suddenly, when it seemed more unlikely than ever, everything changed. We are only in the early chapters of the story of Miller’s career at Indiana, but his ability to refocus his team late as a season seemingly spiraled out of control has…

It is a big week for Indiana as they travel to Chicago for the Big Ten Tournament.  While the annual event has been no friend of IU since it began in 1998, it will be critical for the Hoosiers to pick up at least a win or two if they want to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive. Indiana will take their 12-21 all-time record in the tournament to the United Center in Chicago’s near west side.  While the games begin on Wednesday, the Hoosiers earned a first round bye and will tip-off on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Eastern against…

Let’s get it out of the way. Romeo Langford was named second team All-Big Ten by the coaches and third team by the media.  He finished second in the Big Ten Freshman of the Year voting. Juwan Morgan was named honorable mention All-Big Ten by the coaches and third team by the media. Those are nice achievements for two great players. But this whole thing has gotten way out of hand. Here’s the problem.  They already have a team award. It’s called the Big Ten Championship. The whole idea that individual awards are somehow tied up with wins and losses…
