With an easier schedule and a depleted roster, to be honest, we really haven’t learned much about the 2018-19 Indiana Hoosiers just yet. That is about to change.  Goodbye cupcake city.  Next stop, Duke and their Diaper Dandies. Don’t worry, if you are not a fan, those references are not meant to hint that you are going to have to endure Dick Vitale for any of the upcoming big games.  None that we know of, anyway.  You will have to endure Jay Bilas back at his alma mater of Duke on Tuesday night, however. But that’s nothing like what Indiana…

The Indiana and Notre Dame men’s soccer programs met back in September, but the stakes will be much higher when they meet again in late November. The Hoosiers and Irish battled into overtime in South Bend more than two months ago before Justin Rennicks scored the match winner in the 93rd minute to give IU the hard fought victory. When they meet this Friday night at 7:00 pm. eastern in Bloomington, it will be about more than just a regular season victory and in-state pride.  The College Cup is on the line. It will be a tall task for the…

Too soon?  After another frustrating 5-7 season, it surely is for some.  For others, there’s always hope for that elusive breakthrough season. It will be a long nine months before we kick off the 2019 IU football season, and four months until spring practice. There will surely be more roster fluctuation between now and the 2019 season opener on August 31 against Ball State at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis (you can see the entire 2019 schedule here). But it’s time to take an initial look forward to what next year’s campaign has in store. Our first blush reaction?  IU…

The Indiana University men’s soccer program is one step away from the College Cup as it continues its quest for a ninth national championship.  The Hoosiers defeated Air Force 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in Bloomington. IU scored twice in the first half and for the most part controlled the game from start to finish, although they did have to withstand a last ditch Air Force attack late in the second half. Indiana appears to be on top of its game at the perfect time of year.  The Hoosiers (19-2-1) are back to full strength with Justin Rennicks’ return from the…

Open any edition of IU football’s weekly game notes, and you’ll see this graphic: You knew the improvement was substantial, but that graphic really drives it home.  Tom Allen was a game changing hire by Kevin Wilson. Yes, the defense took a step back in 2018, but that was in large part expected with IU only returning three starters.  And Allen still had the young defense doing flashy things like finishing in the top ten nationally in takeaways. There is no doubting Tom Allen’s prowess as a defensive coordinator.  If Indiana made the foolish move of firing him today, he…

The nuances are always a little different.  The results, pretty much the same. There was an early Purdue touchdown that never should have been after a bad roughing the passer call on third down.  There were the big plays from the Boilermakers’ electrifying freshman Rondale Moore.  There was an IU offense that couldn’t finish drives against a middling Purdue defense. There is really no sense in rehashing the details.  The season is over.  The results are the same.  The same in the game, in the season, and now the same year over year. And this isn’t about bad calls.  Don’t…

Whether it was tryptophan or lingering fatigue from a roster that has been stretched to the limit, IU got off to a shaky start on Friday night against UC Davis.  Down 24-10 with eight minutes to go in the first half, senior forward Juwan Morgan did the same thing he did on Tuesday against UT Arlington — he took the game over. Morgan scored the next 11 points of the game to cut the margin to three.  While the game would hang in the balance until late in the second half, IU went on to win by 14, meaning that…
