This season. What can you say? It is truly becoming difficult for Indiana fans to wrap their minds around the seemingly continuous roster news and now accompanying five game losing streak that collectively appear on track to destroy a once promising season. The torture quotient was taken to the next level on Tuesday night against the Wildcats, as a seldom used Northwestern reserve torched the Hoosiers and completely changed the direction of the game. After scoring just six points all year, forward Aaron Falzon came off the bench and scored 21 points for Northwestern. Before the game even started, junior…

If you are looking for a glimmer of good news during a five game losing streak, Indiana basketball head coach Archie Miller delivered it on Tuesday night. After being out for more than 10 weeks with a concussion, redshirt freshman Race Thompson has been cleared to play. Miller spoke regarding the 6-foot-8 forward on Tuesday night following the loss at Northwestern: “Race has been cleared for this first time for full contact. He’s participated in our last few practices. It’s been about 10 weeks since he’s done anything. I don’t mean done anything, but obviously from an up and down…

We are running out of words. The game felt doomed before it started with the news that junior guard Devonte Green had been indefinitely suspended. Indiana (12-7, 3-5) dropped their fifth game in a row in Evanston, Illinois on Tuesday night against Northwestern. Indiana returns to action on Friday night against Michigan in Bloomington. Check back tomorrow morning for The Report Card. THREE KEYS TO THE GAME 1. Who is this Aaron Falzon guy? The Northwestern forward had scored six points thus far this year coming into the game. He had nine tonight. At halftime. Falzon finished with 21 points…
Updating an earlier report, we have received the following release from Indiana University regarding junior guard Devonte Green: “Indiana University junior Devonte Green, a member of the men’s basketball team, has been suspended from game competition for not meeting the standards expected of members of the program. There will be no further comment on the matter at this time.” The original report is below: BREAKING: We are hearing through multiple sources that Indiana basketball junior guard Devonte Green did not make the trip to Northwestern for tonight’s game against the Wildcats and may be facing a suspension due to a…
It’s round two of Indiana vs. Northwestern, and IU’s fortunes have taken a dramatic turn since the first meeting in early December. In that game the Hoosiers pulled it out late after Romeo Langford hit a runner in the lane with under a minute left. In that earlier meeting, neither team led by more than five points and Indiana kept making big plays to keep things close before finally breaking through at the end. During their current four game losing streak, the Hoosiers have struggled to pull together a complete effort, routinely allowing the opposition to go on big runs.…
I keep getting questions about the Marquette game. What happened to that team? We’re 18 games into the season folks. That game was an outlier. It’s within the realm of possible, but nothing you should be expecting as the norm. We all knew this stretch of games was going to be difficult. But four game losing streaks are never easy to digest in Bloomington. The spectrum of emotions is running from believing that this team will turn things around to silliness about coaching changes. For those of us at least willing to be reasonable here, you look on the bright side,…
The last name of Indiana’s offensive coordinator won’t change much, but the Hoosiers certainly went a long way to find Kalen DeBoer, the new leader of the offensive unit. Fresno, California to be precise. Now the question becomes — how much will the Hoosier offense change as the program moves on from the recently retired Mike DeBord. If history is any indicator, the Indiana attack is about to take a big step forward under DeBoer. DeBoer inherited a Fresno State offensive unit ranked 122nd nationally in total offense in 2016. The Bulldogs improved to 40th in 2017 and 24th in…
An all-time great in the history of the Indiana University men’s basketball program passed away on Sunday. Among several notable accomplishments, the legendary Jimmy Rayl holds a Hoosier record that has stood for more than 55 years — and he did it twice. Rayl is perhaps best known for his two 56-point games during the 1962 and 1963 seasons. The IU Hall of Fame inductee was an All-American and first team All-Big Ten selction. Jimmy Rayl was 77. Here is the full release from the school: IU Basketball Mourns The Loss of Jimmy Rayl Former two-time Indiana University All-American Jimmy…
