Indiana fans can apparently exhale. Senior co-captain and preseason All-Big Ten forward Juwan Morgan returned to practice on Monday according to Indiana head basketball coach Archie Miller on his weekly radio show with Don Fischer. Morgan left Saturday’s game against Michigan State in the first half with a left shoulder injury.  The Missouri native injured the same shoulder as a freshman and required surgery at the end of that season. It sounds like Morgan should be ready for Thursday night’s contest against Iowa.  Miller indicated “He’s not 100 percent but hopefully by the end of the week he’s feeling better without…

Archie Miller wasn’t lying.  Perhaps he was being a little coy, but he wasn’t lying. The second year Hoosier head coach said this on Friday afternoon to a pool of reporters in response to a question on the health of junior forward De’Ron Davis: “We’re looking at De’Ron as that February target of trying to get back in the mix, so I think he’s going to start to really try to jump back in, so to speak, into practice.” He did say February target — and Indiana’s game against Michigan State was in February.  But that sure didn’t sound like…

Hoosier fans will want to be on the lookout for No. 76 on the Los Angeles Rams tonight. As both the longest tenured Ram and former Indiana Hoosier in the National Football League, Rodger Saffold has been at this for a while. Nine seasons in the NFL, and it could all pay off on the game’s biggest stage — the Super Bowl. No one could have seen this coming 15 years ago.  Rated just a two-star recruit in high school, Saffold wasn’t recruited at the highest levels of college football.  He chose to attend IU over Illinois, Kansas and Ohio.…

To say the least, this 2018-19 Indiana basketball season has been bizarre.  Nothing illustrates that better than a seven game losing streak immediately on the heels of a seven game winning streak. Beyond that, the number of injuries suffered by this team is almost beyond comprehension. But nothing was more bizarre or incomprehensible than the Hoosiers’ 79-75 overtime victory on Saturday night against No. 6 Michigan State.  The win ended the seven game skid and came in a building where the Hoosiers had only won two other times in 30 years. While the losing finally ended, the injuries did not,…

With Indiana riding a seven game losing streak, the Breslin Center seemed like a highly unlikely place for the Hoosiers to return to their early season winning ways.  The odds makers agreed, slotting IU as a 14.5 point underdog against No. 6 Michigan State. After an injury to All-Big Ten senior captain Juwan Morgan, what had once seemed unlikely looked impossible.  Morgan hurt his left shoulder diving for a loose ball in the first half. Some how, some way, in the face of so much adversity and a month long run of poor play and misfortune, Indiana persevered. While Morgan…

The final leg of this brutal stretch of 7 of 11 games on the road ends with perhaps the most difficult of them all — a trip to East Lansing to face Michigan State. With Indiana reeling on a seven game losing streak they now must go to the Breslin Center, a building where they have won just twice since it opened in 1989. The Spartans present a major challenge on both ends of the floor, ranking in the top ten nationally in both KenPom adjusted offense and defense. As unlikely as it seems, a win on Saturday in front…

April 30, 2018. At the time it felt like a day that significantly changed the direction of the Indiana University basketball program.  When Romeo Langford pump faked towards the Vanderbilt hat and then chose the cream and crimson IU trident, it is beyond debate that change occurred. Sitting here nine months later, it is the nature of what changed on that day that is still being examined — and may be for years to come. “If you have one one-and-done your team is done.” That’s what former Virginia Tech head coach and ESPN college basketball analyst Seth Greenberg said on…
