For the fifth time in program history, the IU women’s basketball team is ranked in the AP Top 25. The voters are giving the Hoosiers somewhat of a trial run, slotting them in at No. 25 this week. Now the challenge will be staying there. The Hoosier women’s program does not have a long history of being ranked in the AP Top 25, and when they’ve gotten there, they haven’t stayed long.  IU was ranked for one week in 1993 and 2014 before dropping out the following week each time.  The Hoosiers were ranked in the preseason poll in 2016…

Not on the road.  Not against a team this good. No, the fun loving fall behind early and rally for a win Hoosier narrative fell flat on its face in Ann Arbor on Sunday afternoon. After trailing by five or more in each of their last eight wins, IU saw their seven-game winning streak snapped as they fell to 3-1 in the Big Ten as a result of a 74-63 loss to Michigan. A shorthanded Hoosier squad went on the road for the first time in a month and ran into a first half buzz saw. Hot early shooting by Michigan allowed the Wolverines to run out to a 32-13 lead, and Indiana spent the rest of the game playing catch up. The skeptics have been waiting.  On Sunday afternoon, Indiana delivered. Despite a 13-1 start to the season, the IU women’s basketball team had yet to crack the top 25.  Perhaps the voters were looking for a signature win.
