(Update: We are hearing on Friday that this visit may not happen, perhaps in connection with the Armaan Franklin commitment) Valparaiso, Indiana native Brandon Newman is scheduled to take an official visit to IU this weekend. The rising star in the northwestern corner of the Hoosier State recently named a top four list and is coming off an official visit at Purdue. Newman had originally intended to transfer for his senior year to Montverde Academy in Florida, but has decided to return to Valparaiso to attend to a family matter. As a classic two-guard, Newman is best known as a…

Week two of the 2018 Indiana University football season is upon us as the Hoosiers open the new and improved Memorial Stadium on Saturday night. For the first time since the stadium opened nearly 60 years ago, it will be fully enclosed due to the completion of the south end zone project, While the new south end zone structure does not add additional seating, it adds a massive video board, a number of health and wellness facilities for student athletes, and a completely different game day feel. After a long wait, the Indiana University basketball program has its first commit in the recruiting class of 2019. Indianapolis native Armaan Franklin committed to the Hoosiers, making him the first member of what is widely expected to be a three to four player class. https://twitter.com/unkle44artty/status/1037829991164268545 The 6-foot-4 combo guard chose IU over a final three that included Purdue and Xavier. He took an official visit to Purdue this past weekend, which followed an official visit to Indiana the weekend prior. Many recruiting analysts believed that Franklin was leaning towards the Boilermakers prior to the official visits. Franklin attends Cathedral…

The Indiana University football program will face its first power five conference opponent on Saturday when the Virginia Cavaliers come to Bloomington for a game under the lights. The teams met last year at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia, with Indiana winning that contest, 34-17. The 2018 version of Virginia appears to be improved, especially on the offensive side of the football. The Cavaliers struggled at times to put up points last year. But with a fresh face at quarterback, and returning stars running and catching the football, the trend arrow is pointing up. Let’s take a look at the…
First cousins Jonathan Crawford and Donavan Hale had followed the same path since they were infants. They’ve been teammates and the stars of their teams all the way through high school. While they have continued on together at Indiana University, while in Bloomington they have charted different courses, at least on the football field. One has been a starter virtually his entire career. The other has struggled to reach his potential. But both burst onto the scene to begin the 2018 Indiana football season, and each did it with a new wrinkle. For the first time in a career in…

Allen was asked about his impressions of the defense on Saturday. Allen…
The drama continues for the Indiana University football program at the running back position. Just over a week after starter Morgan Ellison was indefinitely suspended, his replacement Cole Gest has been lost for the season with a torn ACL. The injury occurred during Saturday’s 38-28 IU win over Florida International. Gest had five carries for 17 yards on Saturday before leaving the game. At the conclusion of the 2017 season, the running position appeared to be a deep position of strength for IU. Since then IU was hit with a wave of transfers that included Tyler Natee, Alex Rodriguez and Devonte Williams. …

Four star in-state shooting guard Brandon Newman announced “top four” on Sunday via Twitter: https://twitter.com/ballislife_219/status/1036320861597429760 As always with such announcements, the verbiage is key. This is a top four, not a final four. Newman has been connected to other top programs including Kansas, and likely wants to keep his options open to new suitors. In related news, Rivals is reporting that Newman is working on visiting IU “next weekend.” (Update: 247Sports is reporting ($) that this is an official visit). Newman took an official visit to Purdue this weekend. Armaan Franklin also visited Purdue this weekend, and it is believed…
