It is the final week of the NFL preseason, and the last chance for several former Indiana University football stars to make their case for landing on an NFL opening day roster. We go through player by player below for each former IU player that was not a certainty to make the cut. The official cut-down day is coming up on Saturday Sep. 1 at 4.00 p.m. IAN THOMAS, CAROLINA TE Thomas played in 48 percent of the teams snaps in preseason thus far and seems like a lock to make the opening day roster as the backup to starting…

The next two players on this list are going to take you back to an era of Indiana football that is truly amazing. If you didn’t know that IU once had an undefeated season under the direction of one of the more legendary names in the game at the time — now is the time to learn about it. Continuing with our theme of players on this list being true “outliers”, the player coming in at No. 3 may just have the most noteworthy distinction of anyone that donned the cream and crimson — the NFL Hall of Fame. But…
With a big void left by an NFL bound former Hoosier, the tight end position was perhaps the most wide open position on the team going into fall camp. With the presumed incumbent out with an undisclosed injury, the competition appears to be rolling on into the season. Youth and inexperience rule the day in this group. Of the six tight ends on the Hoosier roster, only one has ever caught a pass at the college level. That is about to change. WHO IS GONE No unit on this football team has bigger shoes to fill than the tight end…

Here are the main points covered by Glass: The importance of football to the school and the athletic department. The economic benefits that football sellouts and long term fan loyalty would bring. As a four year starter at quarterback, Antwaan Randle El might have been able to make this list based on his accomplishments passing the ball alone. The Illinois native is the program’s 2nd all-time leading passer with 7,469 yards, and his 42 career passing touchdowns land him at 4th all-time. But it’s only when you add in what Randle El did with his legs that you fully appreciate his greatness as a Hoosier. He’s also the program’s 2nd all-time leading rusher with 3,895 yards. Randle El actually led the team in rushing in 1998 and 2000, and that 2000 rushing…
It’s a good thing we didn’t publish this yesterday. Five days before the season kicks off — and it would have been old news. Last week, a months long quarterback competition came to an end when Peyton Ramsey was announced as the starter. Today, it was announced that graduate transfer Brandon Dawkins has left the IU football program. It was also announced that true freshman and Indiana Mr. Football Reese Taylor would be moving back to the quarterback position after a brief stint at cornerback and receiver. There’s still a few more days until Saturday’s opener at Florida International. Stay…

It’s game week for Indiana football, and the final questions regarding starters, depth and rotation have become clearer today with the latest release of the two-deep depth chart. Below is our summary of the noteworthy updates from the latest iteration of the depth chart. You can also listen to Coach Tom Allen discuss several aspects of it at today’s press conference here. You can see the full two-deep depth chart below. Still uncertainty at Center. The latest depth chart lists Hunter Littlejohn “or” Nick Linder. The rest of the offensive line is consistent with expectations with Wes Martin, Coy Cronk, Simon…
Well that didn’t last long. Graduate transfer quarterback Brandon Dawkins has left the Indiana football program. IU head coach Tom Allen addressed the media on that and many other topics on Monday morning in Bloomington. “We wish him nothing but the very best. Fine young man. Very excited, though, about the two guys I consider our top two QBs, Peyton Ramsey and Michael Penix,” Allen told reporters. Allen indicated that Dawkins met with him on Sunday, and told him he “wanted to sort some things out,” and go in a different direction. https://www.facebook.com/IndianaFootball/videos/233540430665339/ Dawkins reportedly struggled throughout fall camp to accurately…
