Indiana lost to Illinois 5-4 on Friday night and was eliminated from the Big Ten tournament.  The Hoosiers now stand at 38-17 overall. Logan Sowers and Logan Kaletha homered on the night for IU.  Kaletha had 2 hits and drove in 2 runs.  Cole Barr added 2 hits. Illinois scored the game winning run in the bottom of the 9th. IU is widely expected to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.  The brackets will be announced on Monday. The winningest coach in the history of Indiana University football passed away on Friday. His son Curt, the head football coach at Indiana State, broke the news on Twitter: https://twitter.com/CmalryMallory/status/1000103026680651776 Mallory was the head coach at Indiana from 1984 to 1996. Mallory played football at Miami University for former Notre Dame head coach Ara Parseghian and Indiana head coach John Pont.  He coached at Miami, Colorado and Northern Illinois prior to his arrival at IU.  He compiled a 69-77-3 record with the Hoosiers and an overall career record of 168-129-4. Indiana fans are understandably excited about the 2018-19 college basketball season.  When Romeo Langford announced that he would be attending IU, the prospects for the upcoming season took a big lift. It looked like IU was going to be headed back to Bloomington after only 2 games in the double elimination Big Ten baseball tournament.  Trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the 9th against Michigan State, the Hoosier bats finally woke up. Scotty Bradley singled and Jeremy Houston was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the 9th.  Michigan State got two outs against the next two batters and appeared to be on their way to the next round.  That’s when Matt Gorski hit a two-out 3-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to force the game…

Indiana baseball lost its Big Ten opener to Illinois  7-1 on Wednesday night. The Hoosiers will face Michigan State in an elimination game on Thursday.  That game will be played at 2PM EST / 1 CT at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha. IU struggled the entire game against the Illinois pitching staff, gathering just 2 hits on the night.  Starter Quinn Snarskis held the Hoosiers in check for 5 and 1/3, and then the Illini bullpen took care of the rest. Indiana University has released a statement on the latest Academic Progress Report released by the NCAA: BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom, according to the latest NCAA Academic Progress Report (APR) data released today.  Nine Indiana programs earned perfect 1,000 APR scores for the 2016-17 academic year while three teams earned perfect multi-year scores (2013-14 through 2016-17). They are right.  These rankings are way too early.  We shouldn’t even acknowledge them.  But when national folks are clearly just taking last year’s rankings and layering on some quick notes about recruits and transfers, well, we can stay silent no more! CBS Sports is the latest to take a shot at a so-called “way too early” men’s college basketball Top 25.  NBC had something similar a couple days ago.  IU was not included in either set of rankings. Post-season baseball is here as the Big Ten Tournament begins on Wednesday.  No. 5 seed Indiana will face No. 4 seed Illinois at 10:00 PM EST / 9:00 PM CT in Omaha, Nebraska. All of the Big Ten Tournament games will air on BTN. Illinois is starting right-hander Quinn Snarskis.  He is 6-1 with a 3.06 ERA.
