It’s that time of year when even the most casual Hoosier soccer fans start to pay attention to IU’s signature athletics program — the men’s soccer team. Collectively, Indiana University has 24 team NCAA titles. Eight of these titles belong to the men’s soccer program. The eight titles are the second most in NCAA history. St. Louis has 10, but it last won a title in 1973. Indiana has won all eight since then. As you’ve likely heard by now, Indiana class of 2018 target Darius Garland has committed to play for the Vanderbilt Commodores. First and foremost, congratulations to Garland for choosing a great academic institution and a location that will allow his family to easily attend his games. By all accounts, Garland appears to be a good kid that we would have welcomed and cheered enthusiastically for in Bloomington. We wish him all the best in Nashville and his future endeavors. Indiana opened its season with the program’s third worst home loss in the history of Assembly Hall. After that 90-69 loss to Indiana State the Hoosiers just needed a win. In a game against Howard, who is one of the lower rated teams in the country, Indiana did in fact get that win, 86-77. It wasn’t always pretty and this team has a long way to go, but this was, if nothing more, a step in the right direction. For Indiana fans, any loss at Assembly Hall stings. Then there are 21 point home losses to Missouri Valley Conference teams. Not being accustomed to home losses by such large margins, we wondered, what are the 10 worst home losses by the Hoosiers since Assembly Hall was opened in 1971.
