The IU basketball-themed TBT squad just keeps getting better. On Thursday it was announced Indiana’s all-time assist leader Yogi Ferrell will join Assembly Ball in The Basketball Tournament (TBT). Ferrell will be joined by previously announced players Juwan Morgan, Miller Kopp, Troy Williams and Devonte Green. An Indianapolis native, Ferrell played five seasons in the NBA after going undrafted.  He currently plays overseas. Ferrell is Indiana’s all-time leader in assists (633) and games played and started (137). IU basketball will host the South Carolina Gamecocks in a non-conference game on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, the program said Wednesday via release. According to a report by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, this is not expected to be a home-and-home series, but instead just a lone game in Bloomington. The time and television designation of the game will be announced at a later date. The Hoosiers hold a 2-1 series lead over South Carolina. Since Indiana’s 2023-24 season came to an end, all of the focus turned to filling holes on the roster via the transfer portal. But the Hoosiers have six players returning from last year’s squad, so it’s time to look back at how they performed, and the outlook for 2024-25. As we’ve blasted on repeat for a while here, Malachi Moreno is going to be main recruiting target of IU basketball as the class of 2025 hits the homestretch. Mike Woodson offered Moreno in 2022, and the Georgetown, Ky. (Great Crossing H.S.) product has been on the IU campus several times since for various unofficial visits. In recent years IU fans have had to sweat it out while prominent players such as Trayce Jackson-Davis, Juwan Morgan and others made NBA Draft stay-or-go decisions. Following the announcement of the NCAA Tournament field on ESPN2 Monday afternoon, the broadcast flashed up a graphic detailing which bubble teams were truly the last four in and the first four out according to the selection committee. Indiana was thought to be one of the teams walking the bubble tightrope, and it turned out they were in fact one of the last four teams to get an at-large bid in the 2024 field. Indiana’s season is in limbo at the moment, but the Hoosiers won’t have to wait long to find out if they’ll be playing in the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Monday’s selection show will be a nail-biter for the IU players and coaches. Indiana appears to be right on the cut line. A former high-profile Michigan State recruit will reportedly be transferring to Indiana to join his brother. Matt Zenitz of 247Sports is reporting former four-star defensive end Andrew Depaepe will transfer to the Hoosiers. Depaepe is a former top-125 prospect in the 2023 class and was one of the top recruits former MSU head coach Mel Tucker signed during three-plus years. Big changes are coming to college sports. With the arrival of the transfer portal along with endorsement deals (and other player payments) in recent years, that’s something most fans have grown accustomed to with varying degrees of reluctance. This would be a good year for Indiana to have its offensive line firing on all cylinders.
