It hasn’t been a good couple of weeks for high major college basketball coaches hired direct from the NBA. Michigan’s Juwan Howard? Fired. Vanderbilt’s Jerry Stackhouse? Fired. Louisville’s Kenny Payne? Fired. No one at Indiana came out and said it at the time, and they certainly aren’t going to admit it now, but Howard sure seemed to be a significant part of the inspiration behind IU’s hiring of Mike Woodson in March of 2021. At that moment, Howard was coming off a Big Ten title, and he was the national coach of the year. Hiring the former college star from…
After a one-year stop in Bloomington, Payton Sparks is set to reunite with former IU guard Michael Lewis. Sparks announced on Sunday he is transferring back to Ball State to play for Lewis, who is entering his third season as head coach in Muncie. The 6-foot-10 center played two seasons at Ball State and was an All-MAC performer there before entering the transfer portal last March. A year ago Sparks said playing at IU was a dream, but he was unable to carve-out a significant role in Bloomington. In his lone season with IU, Sparks averaged 2.1 points and 1.8…

That figure ranked ninth in NCAA Division I men’s basketball, and his 692 total points were the third-highest single-season tally in school history. Is Dusty May ready for the big stage? IU basketball fans are about to get an up close and personal view as he heads to the Big Ten. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the former IU basketball manager under Bob Knight is finalizing a deal to become the next head coach at Michigan. May became one of the hottest names on the coaching carousel a year ago when he led Florida Atlantic to its greatest season in school history. He guided his Owls to the Final Four while posting a program-best 35-4 record. After a 25-9 2023-24 campaign, FAU has…

Two weeks with no games has been just what the doctor ordered for the IU women. Indiana will begin in its March Madness run Saturday in Bloomington at full strength. Mack (Holmes) has been really good all week, has been constant in practice,” IU coach Teri Moren said Friday at a media availability. “This break has been really good for this group.” Moren said Holmes is not on any kind of minutes restriction Saturday.
