After appearing to hyperextend his knee at Ohio State Tuesday, Kel’el Ware sat out of practice Wednesday, IU coach Mike Woodson said via Zoom on Thursday. Ware’s status for a Saturday evening showdown at Purdue is uncertain as of Thursday morning, the third-year Indiana coach says. “We had to give him the day off (Wednesday), so he basically went through treatment,” Woodson said. “So I’ll know more today when we practice to see where he is.” Ware also missed multiple games recently due to an ankle injury. Indiana might just be taking a conservative approach with Ware this week in…

After saving the IU football roster from what he calls a “crisis situation” in December, new head coach Curt Cignetti hit the road in January to start building the high school class of 2025. While Cignetti said at his introductory press conference he’ll recruit anywhere in the country, it should come as no surprise he’s focused in the Midwest.  And like any college football coach, Cignetti places special significance on recruiting in the program’s home state. “We want to dominate our state best we can,” Cignetti said Wednesday.  “I made every effort to get out there and into the key…

Indiana completed its largest comeback in a game since 1998.  Was it the comeback that saved a season?  Only time will tell, but it was a game fans will remember for a long time. Mike Woodson wouldn’t say the play was drawn up for Anthony Leal. Because it wasn’t.  Not as a first option, anyway. Already with 19 second half points, Trey Galloway was on a heater, and Woodson was going to ride the hot hand in the clutch. Led by Galloway and Malik Reneau, Indiana had come all the way back from an 18-point second half deficit on the road to take the lead in Columbus.  But Ohio State reclaimed a 73-71 edge on Jamison Battle free throws with 32 seconds remaining. After an Indiana timeout, Woodson put the ball in Galloway’s hands. …

Indiana starting guard Xavier Johnson will miss a second consecutive game on Tuesday after suffering an elbow injury a week ago against Iowa. The 6-foot-3 Johnson has already missed eight games this season due to multiple injuries. No other players were listed on the Big Ten’s availability report as out or questionable for Indiana or Ohio State. When commenting on Johnson’s elbow injury, coach Mike Woodson hinted Friday it could be a multiple game situation. “It’s been a struggle because we just haven’t had a full deck, and I don’t know if we’re ever going to have one, to be…

However this season ends for Indiana, the conversation will quickly pivot to rebuilding the roster for the 2024-25 campaign. Yesterday we told you things could get messy in Bloomington if the Hoosiers continue to play poorly over the next few weeks.  But in the transfer portal and “NIL” era, a college basketball roster can be overhauled in a good month or two. That means a lot of negativity towards what appears to be a very a disappointing current season can be washed away quickly with hope for the future.  There’s always next year, you know. Indiana fans would probably be very…
