To say Indiana men’s basketball has struggled at the Kohl Center would be underselling it. Going into Friday’s matchup against Wisconsin, the Hoosiers have lost 19 straight games in Madison. It’s IU’s longest road losing streak against any opponent in program history — more than 100 years. There aren’t many opponents who even come close to that mark. IU lost 17 straight away games against Michigan State from 1992 through 2012, before finally snapping that slump in 2013. And the Hoosiers dropped 12 straight road games against Purdue in West Lafayette in the early days of the rivalry, from 1908…

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana’s lopsided loss to Iowa prompted the Hoosiers to take a long, hard look in the mirror. It wasn’t something they necessarily wanted to do. The conversations weren’t fun. But there was no way to address that display from last weekend without being direct. No. 16 Indiana, relying on veteran leadership, moved on from the letdown and earned a strong 85-62 home win over Minnesota on Wednesday. That victory was the product of some blunt conversations during Monday’s film session reviewing the Iowa game. A lot of people — IU head coach Teri Moren, her staff, and some…
BLOOMINGTON — Coming off its biggest disappointment of the season so far, Indiana women’s basketball needed a response on Wednesday. And the Hoosiers delivered. It wasn’t 40 minutes of smooth sailing at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, but IU got the job done and came away with an 85-62 victory. Indiana (15-2, 6-1 Big Ten) got strong offensive performances from several players in the win. But Mackenzie Holmes, in particular, set the tone. Minnesota (13-4, 3-3 Big Ten) just had no answers for the graduate student. The Gorham, Maine native completely dominated the inside battle against Minnesota’s post players. Holmes led…
BLOOMINGTON — For the second straight year, Indiana men’s basketball finds itself in a precarious situation in mid-January. Indiana went on a three-game losing streak as Big Ten play restarted in January last year, and the situation was on the brink of spiraling out of control after the third loss, a drubbing at Penn State. IU held an oft-referenced team meeting after that game, understanding how important the upcoming game against Wisconsin was to the rest of its season. The Badgers were unranked, and ultimately snapped their run of 19 straight NCAA Tournament bids. But the Hoosiers badly needed a…
IU-Purdue is back. Indiana men’s basketball has one of its biggest games of the year on Tuesday when archrival Purdue comes to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The Boilermakers slipped to No. 2 in the AP Poll this week after losing at Nebraska last week. They’ve been ranked no lower than fourth this season; they’ve spent five weeks ranked No. 1, and this will be their sixth below the top spot. IU head coach Mike Woodson held a media availability over Zoom on Monday morning ahead of the big game. Here are a few key topics he discussed. The rivalry is alive…
Teri Moren said it best in her postgame press conference — a lot of things didn’t go Indiana’s way on Saturday. No. 14 IU women’s basketball went into Carver-Hawkeye Arena for its biggest game of the season against No. 3 Iowa, and left humbled. The Hoosiers were completely dismantled by the Hawkeyes, and are left to pick up the pieces from the disappointing performance. “There were a lot of things that just didn’t go our way. And some nights, you have nights like that,” Moren said after the game. “We’ll have to regroup and get back to Bloomington and get…
Indiana women’s basketball entered Saturday’s showdown in Iowa City on a 13-game winning streak. Both No. 14 IU and No. 3 Iowa were vying for a leg up in the Big Ten title race. And ultimately, the Hoosiers were humbled. The Hawkeyes pulled away in the third quarter and cruised to a 84-57 win at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa (17-1, 6-0 Big Ten) led by just six points at halftime, following a very even first two quarters. But the Hawkeyes locked in defensively in the third quarter and outscored the Hoosiers 22-11. Indiana (14-2, 5-1) shot just 27.3 percent from the field…
BLOOMINGTON — Throughout this season, Indiana head men’s basketball coach Mike Woodson has longed for full 40-minute performances from his team. No team does that in every game — everyone has off nights over the course of a four-to-five-month season. Good teams just find ways to win on those down nights. The Hoosiers have put together pretty complete performances — even if they weren’t “40-minute ballgames” — a few times recently. But they’ve been interspersed with the sorts of dismal displays they can’t afford, and anyone following the team has had no choice but to ride the waves. IU entered…
Indiana hasn’t forgotten about Caitlin Clark’s buzzer-beater. It’s hard to ignore a shot replayed as frequently as that one, and when it stung as much as it did for the Hoosiers. Mackenzie Holmes stepped to the free-throw line with 0.8 seconds remaining during Indiana women’s basketball’s game at Iowa last February, and the forward knocked down both shots to give IU an 85-83 lead. Despite having already secured the outright Big Ten title, this game was meaningful for the Hoosiers. The referees put the clock at 1.5 seconds during a timeout in between Holmes’ foul shots, and then Iowa called…
Indiana football made Rod Carey the highest-paid coordinator in program history in October. That distinction lasted for three months. Defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Bryant Haines is set to make a total of $1.1 million, including base salary, outside marketing and promotional income, and retention bonuses, according to documents obtained by The Daily Hoosier through public record request. His base salary is $400,000, he receives $550,000 per year in outside marketing and promotional income, and he receives two $75,000 retention bonuses per year. That tops Carey’s figure of $815,000 per year. Haines also received a $75,000 signing bonus. Haines, along with…
