After losing to Stanford in blowout fashion on Sunday, Indiana women’s basketball got back on track. The Hoosiers handled business against Murray State on Friday, coming away with a 112-79 win at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington. IU broke the game open early, closing the first period with a 27-12 lead. Murray State hung around and kept fighting in the second and third quarters, as Indiana’s defense had some lapses at times and allowed the Racers some good offensive looks. But the Hoosiers went on a run in the middle of the third quarter and continued that momentum through the…

During the second quarter of Indiana’s game against Wisconsin, Donaven McCulley needed encouragement. The wide receiver had one catch at that point, when he saw two end-zone targets in one series. The first-down throw from Brendan Sorsby sailed way out of bounds. But on third down, McCulley dropped the ball. Sorsby’s pass was a touch high, to keep it away from defenders, but deflected off the junior’s hands for an incompletion. IU had to settle for a field goal. McCulley was unhappy with himself when he got back to the sideline. Redshirt senior Noah Pierre noticed it, and reassured him.…

Teri Moren didn’t mince words. With the way her Hoosiers played, there was no way she could. No. 9 Indiana women’s basketball came out completely flat on Sunday at No. 15 Stanford. The Cardinal set the tone early and ran away with a 96-64 win. Yes, it was only game two of a long season for IU. But this was one of the biggest games on its non-conference schedule. The Hoosiers didn’t quit — it wasn’t an effort problem. But it was ugly, and Moren knew it. “Really, it was just a good old-fashioned butt-kicking,” Moren said after the game.…

Indiana women’s basketball has some work to do. The ninth-ranked Hoosiers faced a big early-season test at No. 15 Stanford on Sunday, and it did not go well. The Cardinal ran away with a lopsided 96-64 victory at Maples Pavilion. Stanford (2-0) set the tone early through All-American center Cameron Brink, who dominated on both ends. The senior put up 10 points, six rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal in just the first quarter, while locking down the paint — and Indiana graduate student forward Mackenzie Holmes — on the other end. Brink was the best player on…

Indiana football, needing to win out to become bowl-eligible, engaged in a total shootout Saturday at Illinois. The Hoosier defense turned in one of its worst performances of the Tom Allen era, as Illinois recorded 662 yards of total offense, tied for the most an Allen defense has allowed at IU. Meanwhile, IU’s offense enjoyed its biggest output of the season against an FBS opponent, with 451 total yards. Indiana redshirt freshman quarterback Brendan Sorsby put together an impressive game-tying drive near the end of regulation to get the Hoosiers to overtime.. But IU settled for a field goal in…

Indiana women’s basketball’s first real test of the season carries more significance than just the game itself. The ninth-ranked Hoosiers are traveling to California this weekend to play at No. 15 Stanford on Sunday at 5 p.m. on ESPN. It’s a big early-season challenge for both teams, with each having just one official game under their belts before it. This is the first leg of a home-and-home series that will see the Hoosiers and Cardinal play in Bloomington during the 2024-25 season. For Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer, these games pit her against her alma mater for just the third…

BLOOMINGTON — Yarden Garzon had something to say. About her game, sure. The sophomore excelled on the court Thursday at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, as No. 9 Indiana women’s basketball dismantled Eastern Illinois in a 96-43 win on opening night. But Garzon’s thoughts after the game quickly strayed away from the hardwood, and it’s hard to blame her. On October 7 — only a few weeks into IU’s preseason practices — terrorist group Hamas launched a surprise attack on her home country, Israel. Thousands of rockets flew from the Gaza Strip into Israel, reigniting its conflict with Palestine and stoking…

BLOOMINGTON — This Indiana men’s basketball team is largely defined by its new faces. With six newcomers playing a lot of major roles, those players could ultimately define how low Indiana’s floor is and how high its ceiling can be this year. But with the Hoosiers locked in a battle against Florida Gulf Coast at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, they had more familiar faces step up with the game in the balance. Senior guards Trey Galloway and Xavier Johnson and sophomore forward Malik Reneau all scored in double-figures in the second half to help IU survive and open the season…

But Sparks is listed as questionable on the Big Ten men’s basketball availability report for the FGCU game, indicating a possibility for his return. Freshman guard Jakai Newton remains out with a knee injury, and redshirt freshman walk-on Jordan Rayford is out with a lower body injury. Kaleb Banks missed the…
