BLOOMINGTON — Indiana’s defense did enough. The Hoosiers suffered a 23-3 defeat against No. 3 Ohio State on Saturday, but against one of the most talented offensive units in the nation, their defense showed real signs of improvement from last season. Indiana (0-1, 0-1 Big Ten) held the Buckeyes to 380 yards of total offense; they had just two games last season with fewer yards. And the Hoosiers held only two opponents to that number last season. OSU (1-0, 1-0) scored its fewest points against Indiana since 1993. The Buckeyes have been limited to that number or fewer just three times in…

Kobee Minor had to grow up fast on the football field. The new Indiana cornerback started playing at seven years old in a local rec league, and from the beginning, he competed against nine and 10 year olds. He was naturally intimidated at first; it’s hard not to be. Kobee was the smallest and youngest on the field. His twin brother, Darryl — who transferred to IU at linebacker around the same time as Kobee — was also playing up an age group, and he talked to Kobee and reassured him. And while it wasn’t completely smooth for Kobee from…
Ahead of Indiana football’s season opener against Ohio State, we’re breaking down some players to keep an eye on this season. The Hoosiers take on the Buckeyes on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington. The game will air on CBS — the first Big Ten game on the network. We ran through our offensive “picks to click” on Thursday. These are our defensive picks. Andre Carter Widely regarded as Indiana’s biggest addition in the transfer portal, Carter will be a critical part of the IU defense this year. Carter posted impressive numbers at Western Michigan last…
IU women’s basketball has a marquee non-conference series lined up. The Hoosiers announced a home-and home series against Stanford, set to begin this year. IU will travel to Palo Alto, Calif. to face the Cardinal at Stanford Maples Pavilion this coming season, and the teams will play a return game at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in 2024-25. The teams last played in November 2021 in the Bahamas, and Stanford came away with a 69-66 win. The Cardinal are 2-1 in the all-time series, with a 2001 win in Palo Alto. Indiana’s win came in Chapel Hill, N.C. in 1979. These…
Indiana football season is nigh. The Hoosiers take the field at Memorial Stadium in just two days to open their 2023 campaign against No. 3 Ohio State. IU has uncertainty in some offensive areas, notably at quarterback. Head coach Tom Allen won’t announce a starter before the game. But there are several known commodities in IU’s offense that the Hoosiers can be (publicly) excited about heading into the season, along with some real breakout candidates worth watching. Here are four selections for those players, our offensive ‘picks to click.’ Jaylin Lucas Lucas proved to be an electric player last season…
IU’s tight end room has been in flux for much of the offseason. Some injuries to top guys during spring and fall cost some practice time, and that’s after the Hoosiers entered spring camp with just one upperclassman in the room. Indiana went to the transfer portal after spring to add some more experience at the position, and the aforementioned others are healthy entering the season. The question, now, is how big an impact they can have on this year’s team. Here’s our outlook for the tight ends, with roster turnover, the projected depth chart, quotes, and more. Prior previews: …
For the first time in 2023, game week has arrived for Indiana football. The Hoosiers take the field at Memorial Stadium on Saturday against No. 3 Ohio State. After four weeks of fall camp, IU moves into game-prep mode to take on one of the top teams in the nation. Head coach Tom Allen, co-defensive coordinator Matt Guerrieri, and offensive coordinator Walt Bell met with the media Monday for their first weekly press conference of the season to discuss their squad and the upcoming battle with OSU. Here are a few notable things they discussed. Running back rotation Indiana’s running…
Indiana’s wide receiver room underwent some turnover in the offseason, with several outbound transfers and a graduated starter opening up some roles in the offense. But with the dust settled, the Hoosiers have a talented crop of wideouts. It’s one of the stronger areas of the roster. Just how good can this group be, and how will these players fit into Indiana’s offense this year? Here’s our outlook for the wide receivers, with roster turnover, the projected depth chart, quotes, and more. Prior previews: Offensive line | Running backs Roster turnover — who’s gone D.J. Matthews Jr. (out of eligibility), Emery…
As college football season draws ever-closer, we’re running down Indiana’s schedule to preview its opponents for 2023. The Old Oaken Bucket rivalry enters a new chapter this year, as Purdue hired Ryan Walters as its new head coach following Jeff Brohm’s departure for Louisville. Indiana won’t be too upset to see Brohm go — Purdue defeated IU in four of the five games during his tenure. Walters brings Big Ten experience, serving as Illinois’ defensive coordinator for the last two years and turning the Fighting Illini into one of the top defenses in the country. Opponent: Purdue Date/Time/TV: Saturday, November…
As college football season draws ever-closer, we’re running down Indiana’s schedule to preview its opponents for 2023. Michigan State is just the fourth team (second Big Ten team) on Indiana’s schedule that did not play in a bowl game in 2022. IU knocked off the Spartans last year in East Lansing in overtime behind a heavy rushing attack, giving the Hoosiers the Old Oaken Bucket for the second time in three years. Opponent: Michigan State Date/Time/TV: Saturday, November 18, TBA Location: Memorial Stadium, Bloomington, Ind. 2022 record/postseason result: 5-7, 3-6 Big Ten Returning production, offense: 80 percent (per Bill Connelly/ESPN)…
